Unhappy Gear Hunting 2-3

I have a 2005 with an auto tans. Recently i have had problems with the gears hunting between 1-2-3 at 1/4 throttle. The dealer said it was the shift selinoid giving me problems and that there is no known cure for it. There is a TSB out for it but no fix. I don't buy that but they say if they change it, the problem will develop in higher gears. Any ideas?

Fill out your sig with your truck info....then we can help you more. There is a new TSB out to replace the governor in the tranny, which is supposed to help out with the gear hunting issues - not sure on the valid model years though.

I scheduled the truck in for a replacement of the Shift Selinoid. They are going to do the tranny sevice at the same time to save me money and adjust the bands. The problem is not the same as the O/D shift problem most others are having. The dealer says it is a separate issue. Thet hope it doesn't show up somewhere higher in the gears. They have decided to change it because i have complained that it is getting worse.

Here is my best description of the problem: When excelerating at 1/4 throttle from a stop the power continues until it reaches about 1500-1700 RPM then it feels like i am on ice. The RPM is there but the power is lost. The RPM does not continue like a gear slipping. It doesn't drop either, it bounces a few RPM until it finds the next gear. If i heavy pedal, the problem is there but the miss is short. This will happen going into 2nd and 3rd. Another dealer suspects the throttle response sensor.
