Yea thats just the temp sensor reading, not the block changing temp that fast

Try this,.. when its up to operating temp, after driving 30 minn or more.., feel the top radiator hose and then feel the bottom hose, on mine the top hose is hot and the bottom hose is warm

i checked it yesterday after changing the Tstat and the outside air temp here was 70*

peace,

steve

Summer of 2007, my truck was running hot when pulling my trailer. Long story short, the radiator was clogged. While it was out, I replaced the thermostat and hoses. Now the truck runs up to 190ish, the tstat opens, temp goes to 140ish, back up to 190ish until it finally settles out after about an hour of highway driving. The old thermostat had a rubber sleeve around it, but the new one doesn't. Has anyone else run across this and what were the corrective measures?

Get the proper thermostat and seal ring, on a Freightliner the seal ring is a 3923331 KD. If your rad was plugged then your heater core will be also, the best flush I have seen is Arm and Hammer Washing Soda, and if there is oil in the cooling system then add 1/4 cup of Dawn Dishwasher soap. Continue doing the flush until the fluid comes out clean, you can leave the flush in all day and drain it out every night, If you don't change the heater core it will take along time to clean it out and usually they are not that expensive to just replace it. Then fill with Dex-cool. No other coolant says protect-ant and it will not rust the cooling system and eat away the steel parts.

I have my rad flushed once every other year. I work in extreemly dusty areas. It is crazy how much dust and crud can find its way into the radiator. My 97 always runs around 190, I was worried about that running so high, that was why I had it flushed the first time. Now after the flushes I feel commfy with how it is. I still always keep a close eye on my temp gauge, and make sure that the t-stat is closing and opening like it is supposed to.

I know this thread is a little old but, just out of curiosity, why did you have to replace the ENTIRE fuel system? The p-pumps are usually pretty strong.
