It appears to me that driving the truck for a longer distance at greater sustained speeds than some others are driving them has helped me to not have any troubles with the DPF, turbo and/or other emissions equipment related problems.
If possible try to drive it ocassionally at highway speeds to minimize the possibility of problems down the road.

Thumbs up I suspect your right about G30

Thought I would share this...My new '08 Ram Laramie, 2500 4X4, 6.7, with only 800 miles developed a radical and fluctuating voltage drop when cold starting (California cold 55 degrees) not the common slight drop with heater grid activation, but appeared possibly related.

The volt meter would drop to the peg at the 8 volt mark and then slowly work its way up to 14.5 in about 20-30 seconds, headlights, interior lights dimmed and then turned off and would not recycle for over a minute, any additonal load ie: heater fan, seat warmer, fog lights, caused the same events to reoccur. The truck was undriveable during the event time. Stepping on the electronic accelerator to increase RPM caused the same above result and made the diesel run roughly, diesels run no matter what I thought. The "problem" went away after what seemed like forever but in reality was three to four minutes and did not replicate during the rest of the day.

When I talked to the dealer they said it was normal operation due to grid heater cycling. Being new to Dodges, I thought they can't be serious, not at those prices!

I compared my truck with other like trucks. The drop was not even close to what I experienced which was almost total electrical failure. Left it overnight so dealer so they could see the problem first hand and the next morning they were able to see the same problems. They troubleshot and discovered; No fault codes, batteries checked very good as did alternator output. The bottom line: "We don't know what's wrong," and called they called the Tech guru @ Dodge factory. No help there, they too said normal for grid heater operation.

I wasn't convinced and started feeling big time Buyer Remorse. The Service Manager noticed Recall #G30 had not been incorporated into my truck. G30 was basically replace o2 sensor module and reprogram the ECM/PCM. We didn't see the relationship to my problem and the recall but.... the work was done and I drove off into the afternoon gloom.

It's been four 36 degree mornings now and no cold start problems. (36 degrees is cold for Southern California). I don't know if the G30 was the cause or maybe just the reprogramming of the ECM/PCM fixed the problem.

Interesting however not surprising when dealing with a vehicle where eveything from the AC compressor cycling to alternator output is control by a central brain running software; sometimes a reflash (if even to the same software revision) can clear up glitches.

Slagburn,

You are absolutely right on. Scary really, Some years ago that issue would have simply been a voltage regulator problem and had no effect on the diesel at all. Progress????

I was told that the reflash portion of this G30 recall is to narrow injector pulse width, resulting in less power output. I was told this by the technition that would be doing it to my truck. I have reservations about letting them nuter my rig. I have about 7000 miles on it and have the overhead display "cat 90% full" one time but started out down the hwy and watched the regen process do it thing. Soon 80%, then 70% and so on. Any one else heard this or have this fear? Also could someone enlighten me on "CEL"? Thanks!

Hey,has anyone check their vehicles out at My Dodge: Official Dodge Owners website - Warranty, Vehicle Specs, Service Contracts, Financing, Dealers You list your last 8 numbers of your vin and Dodge informs you if their is any recalls for your vehicle. I was wondering how accurate this site is?
I check about every other week and have not seen any listed for my truck bought new in Nov 2008.

hey does anyone know if the dealer has to order the parts for you or should they have them there. I keep getting the run around from the guys at power Dodge in Phoenix their not even returning calls.....but one guy said they get 5 at a time and would call, one said hit or miss, and a third said it had to be ordered specifically for me..

Makes it difficult for us shade tree mechanic types; almost every procedure in the service manual starts with "Connect Scan Tool" and very little content about using a DMM to check for faults at various places.

First I've heard this, mine has been pretty much the same in terms of gauge readings and seat of the pants power which is usually a lot more than the rear tires can put to the ground.

I had to call numerous times and eventually spoke with the parts department to get the stuff I needed, kind of a joke but helped a lot when I showed up for th recall along with another guy who hadn't called ahead.

If you're talking about the recall parts, the dealer should order several in advance. My dealer contacted me to set up a time to come in. Seems to me if your dealer is not taking care of your problems it is time to find another dealer. I just had the recall parts changed out last Friday . They changed the module and blower fan and motor and driving to work this morning the ( CEL ) came on for the second time. This is starting to suck because the closest dealer is 30 miles away and with fuel prices around $3.30 a gal well you get the idea.

I've read that having this recall done can have a negative effect on MPG's. With diesel fuel running $4.00 a gallon here in PA I can't afford to lose any MPG's! Has anyone experienced a drop in MPG's after having this recall done?
