the 6.7 SHOULD NEVER smoke!! if you truck smokes there is a problem. make sure that you have the newest software there is a flash update for excessive soot cause the truck is over fueling.

Smile 6.7 no smoke

Got my 6.7 in June and have 2500 miles on it and no smoke yet. Had one dealer oil change at 1500 miles and asked them to make sure they use the proper oil, so they must have. Getting 18.5 mpg on highway light and 12 towing a 7000lb boat at 65 mph. so far happy but still getting used to the trans shifting so much when loaded.

I agree with you guys, cummins makes a great engine. I had a 5.9 that I pulled my 5th wheel with and never had a minutes trouble. I traded it a few months ago on the 6.7 with the 68RE Tranny and other than running a little sluggish and the engine malfunction light staying on. I love it!!! I took it in to the dealer and they re-programmed it and told me about the regeneration process etc...Also I was told this correct the problem. The light now comes about once a week and may stay on for a few days. It is a little unnerving - I'm just concerned that if i'm pulling the camper and this alarm comes in should I just ignore it? I was told that Cummins did over a million miles of testing before this engine was put into production. You would thought this would have showed up then but, you never know. Other than that it is a great truck!

i have a 6.7 with 22,000 miles on it.

i run strictly on the open highway hauling RVs, so far no smoke on mine and has been running quite good. Taking mine in tomorrow for service work as it seems not to be getting good mileage. Getting roughly 8-11 mpg when pulling 8500-11,000lb travel trailers.

no load on the truck going 75mph i can get 17.5mpg

would like all feedback on how to improve my mileage . . .

what are thoughts on putting chip in and does that void the warranty (100,000 mi warranty with drivetrain and motor)

The 6.7 should not smoke.....take it back to the dealer and tell them to make it right. There could be several things causing the smoke but my first suspicion is the new catalytic system.

I called the dealer. Not aware of anything. I think I'm going to find another dealer. Phoenix has quite a few to choose from. I put the exhaust brake on and the thing smoke real bad. Does that mean there is a lot of soot that needs to be burned out? I towed my 8000 lb trailer for 1,000 miles and it didn't ever clear out. Still no lights or warnings and still runs strong, just smokes A LOT. Much more than my brother's 5.9L.

there is a design for burn off or blow off , which does send it out the exhaust , older the motor , the thicker the build up, let the smoke fly

Now the engine light is on. It will stay on for about a day then go off. It's the first time the light has come on. Twice this past weekend.
