Hi guys I`m really new to diesels but agood mechanic when it comes to gas engines.
I just bought an 04 dodge ram 2500 5.9 L last week and have a question or two.
1. there is a plastic blow tube that runs down the side of the engine that blows oil all over the tranny. Is this common? is there a fix? is it indicative of a greater problem? what is that tube? is it like a PVC breather on a gas job?
I have a 98.5 that has this same problem. It is pretty bad actually. Never knew what the real reason for it was. It probably blows a gallon of oil total out of a 3-5k mile oil change. And I do not have a lot of blowby with the oil cap off.
So what exactly does this mean, or what is causing this problem?
98.5 3500 5sp, tst pm3, superchips, bosch 300 inj., afe intake, triple a pillar pod (FP, Boost, EGT), 245k miles

i've got a 99 that drips oil out the blow by tube sometiem and sometiems it dont so i jsut extented it till its botu 4 inchs off the ground but it blows white smoke out like a SOB and its been doing that for probaly over 2 years still runs strong the only probalem i have is if its kinda cool in the day its hard to start. and now with the hose that long everyone has to stop me to tell me i have something lose. but i jsut deal with it till i have the time and money to rebuild it.
