2500 MegaCab Payload

I just got a 2006 Ram 2500 MegaCab with the CTD 6 speed manual transmission. I love it! I just wish the payload was little higher than 1,690#. I understand that with the Cummins and the 4x4 it makes the truck heavier and all, but the 3500 Mega 4x4 can have 2790 or 2830# depending on the GVWR (either 10,100 or 10,500) Also I don't have a 2006 Ram book, I got these numbers from a 2007 Ram book. Are they the same as for my 2006? So my main question is to give my truck more payload, I've heard that the 2500/3500 difference was only a helper or overload spring. Is that all I need to add for more payload?

I wouldn't even bother with the spring,i would just put airbags on it.I have some firestone bags on mine,there rated for a 100psi.I hook on to my 30ft camp trailer and my suzuki 700 in the back of my truck and only put 45psi in them and the truck sits level and it still tows awesome

I am in the same boat. I just didn't know (when I bought it) that the payloads were that much more of a difference. On a weekly basis I am 2,000+ in my truck. 1600 is water weight.

Thanks for the reply. With the airbags do you manually fill them? or do you have a compressor, tank, and can fill them 'on the fly'?

Depends on the you want to dish out. You can have it either way for manual fill or using a switch. I have even seen one that the guy had a switch put on the truck that would adjust the airbags like a semi to keep it level.

Oh! also when you start adding weight to your truck, make sure that your tires are rated for the extra weight, that seems to be all the DOT guys are interested in.

You can manually fill them or opt for an onboard compressor,I've heard the onboard compressors have a tendancy to burn up though... Also just a tip if u do decide to put them on, even when ur not using them. Always keep 10psi in the bags to prevent them from pinching and tearing the bags
