I talked to the guy behind the counter about my alternator. I told him I wanted it tested for AC noise and I got that look(lobster on my head). I explained about the surging issue and how too much AC noise could be the cause. He tested it for me and came up with a .01 Vac. So it passed, but I'm going to pull it and inspect the brushes. Worst comes to worse I will bring it back and have them rebuild it. Bosch makes the best alt. for these 2nd gens. I'm not letting it go for some NAPA luck of the draw alternator.
Easy test is to unhook the alternator wire, tape it so it doesn't short on anything, and take it for test drive. If it doesnt act up then its your alt. If it does, then you have different issue
Problem with that is the issue is not at all consistent. I think it may have been the corrosion around one of the battery terminals. That's been the cause in the past. Time to get my hands dirty.
It will surge about 200 RPMs while accelerating up a hill. It happened yesterday for the first time in a long time while heading to the coast. There were several long hills where the surging would occur. Also would do it while going down a long hill with very light throttle. I would think if the brushes were bad it would be more consistent.
I believe it is TC. TPS is my next guess. I got the alternator off and tore it down to see the brushes which look fine. I know there is a test I can do for the TPS, just gotta find it.
My multimeter doesn't return to zero so I guess its junk. I will have to pick up a new one to test the TPS. I did some research on CF and know what to do, just need to get a new meter. I will be getting a Wells TPS if I do need to replace it.
