mine is a 07 5.9 so it has non of the enviro stuff on it.
Dont think i need a chip that's what the bully dog is for. Friend said I outta do a shift kit for the trans and I want a exhaust brake for it.

bigger injectors will just kill my fuel consumption.

actually aftermarket injectors claim to give you better mpg, thing is once you put them on you can't stay off the throttle and hence poorer mpgs

Just did a 175 circle and it took18.9 ltrs. I would try try sunoco gold. This truck does better on it. I was fueling in town at an esso and my fuel mpg really suffered. Still not nearly as good in the summer. I wonder if these cai worsen the milage in colder climates?

Well I was at truck town the other day and apparently their going to stop selling BIO. I guess they must have got a bad batch or something , looks like I'll have to start getting into mixing 2 stroke.

Questions and awswers for y'all.

Answers first. Why is the MPG down? As previously said, winter blend. Number two, is ULSD. As ULSD has less BTU's than LSD, there is a significant drop in milage and is most noticable in winter blend for some reason. When I purchased my first batch of it two years ago, I could hear and feel the differance between the two fuels. I originaly thought I got a bad batch, but after speaking with the station, was told they were running market testing of ULSD. As soon as I filled elsewhere, I was OK again. Motor ran smooth. Milage was back. Power was back. Then ULSD was mandatory EVERWHERE I noticed the same symptoms return and not go away. 2 stroke oil helps a bit but milage is still gone. I sit at 15-16 mpg vs the 19 ish from LSD. The milage will never come back until they add more power (BTU's) per litre back into diesel.

Now for the question. Sonoco has two diesels. Gold and regular. I saw it touched on, but has anyone else noticed a MAJOR differance between the two grades? Just filled this morning (having used my first tank of Gold) and noticed I am up a few MPG with the Gold vs the regular I normally fill with. Motor also ran smoother this past tank (likely due to added lubricants). Have not run enough tanks yet to make my own opinion, just curious what others have noticed.

Thanks!

Robert

Robert,

I can assume your not adding power service to stop the fuel from gelling?

I'm running it on and off only when real cold like -15 not keeping track of consumption when using it.

I have not run anything else but Gold in my truck. I want to try Bio in the summer and see what that does.

Dave.

Why not make your own? I'll go in on it with you.
There is a guy on Mississauga RD selling fuel tanks you could store the fuel in there.

They say why they are not going to sell it this summer when I wana try it?

Dave.

Dave - No additives other than Shell 2 stroke oil. Never needed anything else.

As for bio, do be aware that it has even less BTU's per liter than ULSD (so you willuse more fuel and get less power and mileage from it) and if the blend is not 100% right, alot of damage can happen. Main reason I have stayed away from it.

So then why do people use it othen then its clen burning and supopsedly cleans the engine as well. Constructions cos and city uses it in there bus fleets and trucks.

There is 2 stroke oil, and then there is uel additives.

2 stroke oil is just that. Oil for lubrication. Will not clean anything but will actualy increase smoke output (think snowmobile, boat motor, chainsaw, etc) and may gum things up a little if overused. Be sure to use a good quality oil that will not leave ash ontop of the pistons.

Fuel additive has many properties from anti gel components, system cleaner, lubrication, etc. This is the thing that will clean a system and make it burn cleaner and maybe even bump MPG a liny bit. Also utilised by companies and city equipment. Be mindful the first few tanks of it you use, you may need to change the fuel filter as it will start moving the sludge in the bottom of your fuel tank and may plug the filter.

Hope that helps.

Robert
