Fuel Filter

I order a fuel filter for my new 6.7 and the dealer looked it up and said $31 for it. The next day I picked it up and she brought out this big box, she opened it up and there was the complete canister that bolts onto the engine. I took it home and unscrewed it and the filter was inside anyway I took it back and the parts guy looked it up and said the filter is only $14 and that is why the whole thing was $31 he said now you have a spare part incase you cross thread it. Does anyone have a clue as to what thats worth I still can,t believe its not a few hundred.

Its not just a plastic canister its the cast aluminum head that bolts to the engine with water sensor & low fuel preasure sensor also the fuel lines are attached to it.

If all you were lookin for was a $14 fuel filter why oh why would they sell you the entire sheebang???
It's gotta be similar to my 01, screw the top off, snap the filter out of it...drain it, replace the o ring and re prime it and drop in the new filter/cap combo and screw it down??

Oh BTW I was quoted $52 for "fuel filter replacement" the other day at a major CDN TIRE retailer, I always do my own but was bored walkin around with the wife shopping and decided to go quiz the auto dept on some stuff. I did it earlier this week along with an oil change. Drop the plug, let er drain/drip and do the fuel filter while your waiting. Every 2nd oil change I replace it, cheap insurance I think.

Its not the same as yours the 6.7 you stick a half inch drive extention into the bottom of the canister and unscrew it, ( drain first & disconnect wire) it looks like a better setup if you can figure out an easy way to get at it. All you do is pull the filter out and dump the dirt or what ever is in the bottom then snap a new filter . Screw it back in but they made the hole where the extention goes in weird so you can,t over tighten it. Then plug things back in and prime it the same as usual. Thats the way it looks to me but I hope someone has a easy way to get at it. About ordering the complete filter assemble maybe this Dealer doesn,t do much deisel business but I was looking at the screen when it showed $14 for the filter alone. I,ve never paid more than $12 in the US at the Cummins store for the filter for my 02 and I changed that one every 20000 KM .
