DPF deletion fines?

So, I am standing in Home Depot parking lot loading up and a guy comments on my truck and the stacks. We start yapping and before you know it, 10 min goes by. We talk about that he is new to Cummins Dodges and he has a 6.7 and then he asks me, Oh, since you run the Ontario Dodge Cummins chapter, you will know.

If I take the DPF and EGR valve off my truck like I read I can do, what happens if I get caught?

I tell him that leaving it on is obviously the legal side, but what the fines and stuff are, I have no clue! I know it is alot but....

You know me! If I do not know the answer to a question, I find out so I know for next time!

Anyone know?

Thanks!

As of right now there are no fines being handed out in Canada. We do not have any EPA fines for the removal of the DPF and EGR despite any rumors going around.

Ontario Highway Traffic act.

Section 75 subsection (1).

75. (1) Every motor vehicle or motor assisted bicycle shall be equipped with a muffler in good working order and in constant operation to prevent excessive or unusual noise and excessive smoke, and no person shall use a muffler cut-out, straight exhaust, gutted muffler, hollywood muffler, by-pass or similar device upon a motor vehicle or motor assisted bicycle. R.S.O. 1990, c. H.8, s. 75 (1).

While it does not specifically state "DPF", an MTO officer could / would at his or her discretion deem it a " by-pass or similar device" and either give you a "fix it ticket" warning or a fine.

I doubt the average police officer would bother you, just the MTO.

Does Ontario state anywhere that a turbocharger is counted as a Muffler, as Saskatchewan does?

no, every vehicle must be equipped with a muffler.

Yes, under the Environmental Protection Act

Environmental Protection Act - O. Reg. 361/98

Catalytic Converters

5. (1) No person shall use leaded gasoline as a fuel to operate a motor vehicle manufactured with a catalytic converter. O. Reg. 361/98, s. 5 (1).

(2) No person shall operate or cause or permit the operation of a motor vehicle with a catalytic converter if leaded gasoline has ever been used as a fuel in the motor vehicle until the catalytic converter has been repaired or replaced. O. Reg. 361/98, s. 5 (2).

(3) If a motor or motor vehicle is manufactured with a catalytic converter, no person shall alter or cause or permit the alteration of the motor or motor vehicle in a manner that permits exhaust emissions to bypass the catalytic converter. O. Reg. 86/99, s. 4.

(4) No person shall operate or cause or permit the operation of a motor or motor vehicle that was manufactured with a catalytic converter if the catalytic converter, or any replacement for the catalytic converter,

(a) is not capable of performing the function for which the catalytic converter was intended; or

(b) is disconnected, removed or otherwise altered so that it is not capable of performing the function for which the catalytic converter was intended. O. Reg. 86/99, s. 4.

You would need your cat installed to pass the visual for Ontario Drive Clean.

Odds are nobody is going to check on a pickup at random as their are real issues that the police and or MTO need to deal with. I know a few guys who drive imports with raspy exhausts and they get hassled for no cat or hollowed out cats all the time.

Well my rig did not have a muffler on it when I bought it last year.

I've seen two trucks so far one from the US and one from Canada just the other day. One Dodge one GM both dulies.

The US one even at idle and taping the exhaust you could see black smoke. He said to me all he has done was put a exhaust kit on it. it was a 07 6.9 with 200'000 miles on it, he hauls 5th wheels and goose necks.

The GM I duno what was up with it but it was the same and it looked like factory exhaust.

Speaking of MTO...

I was cutting grass for the region of peel on Airport Rd and had both my rig out my GM with the 4' whelen light bar going, I still have 2 blue led heads in it. One MTO guy said I cant have that bar the other said shut the blue off.

4 out of the 6 heads up front are amber as well as the corners and rear lights. I know im not allowed to have Blue running out on the road.

I'm sure there are some heavy Nesel NF Muirs Trucks they could look at. J/K don't wish that on anyone the fines are crazy for overload I hear.

Around here the fines are crazy and if they catch you or can prove that you wrecked a road due to that overload.... you're screwed. It's insane.
