You have to pay the $215 RIV fee and also the A/C tax and Then Gst at the border. then take it to Crappy Tire and have it inspected Around $45. THen you pay the PST at the MTO.

the inspection at crappy tire should be included in the RIV fee

I guess the only downside to importing would be all the paper work and paying both GST & PST. Oh well i guess nothing can be done about that.

Just make sure the recalls are done before you get to the border.
And check the times with the border because you can only cross at certain times now like 8-5 on monday thru friday and some weird hours on the weekend.
And you need the original title and 2 copies sent to the border no faxing them.

Are you sure on the sending 2 copies to the boarder? I called US customs and he gave me a fax number to send a copy of the original title to. My plan was as follows:

-Call and confirm they received the fax copy of the title,
- head down on friday, stay the night, get the truck first thing sat mourning
-Next show up at the boarder with the truck, title, bill of sale, and recall clearance letter in hand
- pay the RIV fee and GST
- enter Ontario

I guess ill give US customs another call tommrow and see what they say.

Ryan

I know when Craig and I brought the convertible back. He had to have the original title at the port of entry 72 hrs ahead.
The rest of your plan looks good just check on the times that the border office is open cause a few people have had to spend an extra night because they only process titles during certain hours.

Ohh and one more thing have a copy of the cancelled cheque or a bill of sale with you. Dad and I got caught that way we didn't have any proof of the purchase price. It slowed us down for about an hour while they investigated us.

I was planning on giving him cash, and to write out 2 bill of sales. As far as having the original ownership sent there, i find it hard to believe anyone would do that without the money in hand first. I will be calling today to find out the hours tho.

There's also one more thing, as I understand it, to get it passed I thought you hade to have a speedo that shows km's/hr, some US vehicles don't and a dealer once told me it would have to be changed if that was the case. I could easily be wrong but hey, ask now better than pay later!!
