Anyways Ron, while I cant say that I am a part of that group, I have met some of them up at the truck pull up here. I can tell you that of the folks I have met, they are great people and we owe them alot of gratitude for what they have done for our country. With that said, I fully agree that there is a time and place for everything! In fact when I see the guys that come up here I will pass your observations along.

Ok first, I apologize if you aren't. I couldn't tell but I thought it looked like you had their banner on your rig. if not, again, I apologize.

As far as giving these guys credit for what they do, that has nothing to do with the "stupid" things they are doing. I have been doing what they are doing for 21 years now. I have a diesel truck, I have a 9 second street car and I love everything about vehicles.

Just a litle more info about this and then I will shut up about it. I know for a fact that now the base is looking at cracking down on diesels and smoke. The word is starting to make it's way around to ticket these guys if they are smoking like that on base and yes, I have seen a couple of the knuckle heads do it on base.

Pete, you are right. I am busy as all get out trying to move, but I will track them down this week.

Make no mistake, I don't want these guys in trouble nor am I going to make trouble for them, but they are out of hand around here with the smoke crap. Save it for the track. We go out to the track a lot and I never see any of their high powered trucks out there.

Thanks

Hey all. Yes going with the "BSM" they are talking about outlawing it on base. Do not get me wrong some of the guys are great but some not so much. I have not done anything to my truck yet, but when i get back i will say she will not look the same.

I am an Communication Maintenance Officer. Chief Warrant Officer 3 until August 1st and then a CWO4.

I am just a vehicle buff that hates the extra attention all diesels are getting lately because of this club. I really need to talk to these guys. I had a guy ask me about them at the parts store the other day. He went on telling me about how one of them smoked him and his family out on his way to dinner while heading down a popular road here. I have my truck turned up some and yes it will smoke if I want it too, but it just isn't as cool as they think.

That is completely uncalled for. I agree with you. They're probably just some young Marines that think they're invincible. Are the MP's gonna crack down on that?

Thanks for the Congrats guys. Pete, I am not sure about that one more. Getting a little wore out, but there isn't much better than being a CWO5 in the Corps as far as I am concerned. Plus you dang near make what a LtCol does.

anyway, here is an update as of an hour ago.
Ok, I talked to the President of the club today. He blew smoke at me at the entrance of our housing area so I did a u-turn and we had a chat. Seems like an alright guy. Has nice rig for sure. I expressed my concerns about the safety factor in this when they smoke out intersections and other public places (school buses). He informed me there was no law here for black smoke. that is fine, but there soon will be if they keep it up. I also informed him about the Marine Base and their growing interest in why they keep getting reports about smoking diesels. He agreed to talk to the club and curb the smoke some. That is all I can do at this point. If I see it on base or excessive in town again, I will do a 3rd party ciatation on who ever it is and they will have to go to base traffic court and I will be there to inform the judge as to exactly why the truck smokes.

on another note, he said the truck runs 10:80s at 133mph and he will be at the Jacksonville dragstrip soon. I would love to see that but I am moving soon. I mentioned JohnP and he said he had heard about him, but like he said, his runs 10:80's.

I just hope they curb it some because I could have taken a whole different approach to this and I am trying to be cool as I am a gear head myself.

Thanks guys

hmmmm.. in all humility I've gotta admit that if I get tailgated on base. (which happens alot on Lejeune because I actually follow the speed laws) I let out some to give them a message, works well. I've pulled into Piney Green shopping center and stopped and talked to the black smoke mafia guys one time and they seem to be good dudes. The one cat with the single stack and long bed white dodge can definately chug the coal and he isn't afraid to roll it. I dunno.. Moderation is probably the best course here. You don't have to dot out the sun at every stoplight you leave but at the same time it's fun to puff out some, especially when all the young ricer/lowrider guys are trying to chug up your rear end out on western Blvd.

Lejeune/Jacksonville is off the hook for bombed out diesels. I've never been in any part of the country the size of this area that has such a concentration so I can understand the CWO's concern for it going overboard and causing a new base order to be put into effect, I'd be lying to you if I were to say that I don't roll it out of my 12 valver sometimes but I'm also not rolling it all over at any chance..

I would post up a pick of my truck but I don't want anyone recognizing it and getting their feelings hurt because I gave them a black love squirt at some point and time.. lol
