veggie special

gents and cummins ladies if present

my 01 24V craves a new experience just like me as a newbie on this forum. i was going to kit convert to veggie oil but i hear that the fuel pumps resist. we bought a diesel still but found that too dangerous (i mean, where do you get a ready supply of methanol delivered to my crib) to make bio diesel. i now contemplate mixing veggie oil 1/2 and 1/2 with diesel fuel. have 2000 gallons of veggie oil @ $.50 per gallon and i just need to know if anyone has done that mix and what were the results.

Methanol is no more dangerous to store than gasoline.

false methanol is more dangerous to store than gasoline, methanol has a much lows flashing point. meaning is exposed to air it goes bad quickly while emitting and extraneous amount of flammable vapor, much more so than gasoline.

The MSDS storage recomendations for methanol are the same for gasoline.

I have been told that the vp trucks won't handle the veggie oil well, Is this true?

The common rail trucks dont handle bio well. My vp does fine plus it lubricates exponetially better.

WRONG.....Methanol has a flash point of 52*F, gasoline has a flash point of -45*F, thats right gasoline has a subzero flash point.

Please don't take my word for it, the word of a former chemical plant operator with 19+ years experience.

Instead google the MSDS for both and read it yourself.

bigrattlerdiesel, not trying to flame you or anything, but giving bad info like this only scares newbies from home brewing biodiesel.

Folks you take more risk filling up you gasoline powered vehicles than you would at taking a crack at making your own biodiesel.

Just educate yourselves, and follow all safety precautions, and you should be just fine.
