I'm in Dutchess (just over the line in East Fishkill), but from Westchester. I have family there and get down there often.

For anyone that lives upstate, and can say that they move a few bales of hay, you should get them. They are cheaper and you are exempt from the heavy diesel use tax. These are not to be confused with farm plates, where you are restricted to the farm and nearby. Also your quote of the law is not accurate, you can get passenger plates if you install seat fittings in the bed or camping equipment in the truck. They will change the pickup to a suburban on the registration. Then you are parkway legal. Some troopers take offense but the rule reads trucks that are legally registered as passenger vehicles are permitted on parkways. I do not want to nitpick, but I do not want to discourage anyone from moving to NY or buying the truck they want.

NYS DMV - Vehicle Registration - Vehicle Modifications and Registration Class As I said earlier, downstate NY is *not* a friendly place for heavy duty pickups, which is why the original poster can't find a lot of forum members in his neck of the woods. Do you think it's reasonable to permanently install seats and a cap or a camper onto your pickup just to drive on the parkways where mommy-trucks and Hummers are already permitted? Quote:
In the case of moving to NY, the state government, insane taxes, and high cost of living discourage people from moving to NY more than anything that I can write. Albany doesn't want us state citizens to have big pickups, because it would make it easier for us to move out of the state. ![]() To quote Billy Joel: Code:
Seen the lights go out Broadway I saw the Empire State laid low And life went on beyond the Palisades They all bought Cadillacs And left there long ago

They grew up in Tappan, they bought a house up there maybe five years ago if even that right off 301 and the Taconic it's actually kent twp where they are. We need to find a place to meet. Unfortunately I live in snottyville down here in Larchmont (most definitely not truck friendly, not only the roads but the people too) so there are not many options down this way for a meet. Oh did I mention that I am one of the poor people that live in Larchmont, so you don't get the wrong impression. have a good day folks.

Do you think it's reasonable to permanently install seats and a cap or a camper onto your pickup just to drive on the parkways where mommy-trucks and Hummers are already permitted? This is an absolute sham an Excursion (with a diesel) is way heavier than a lot of pickups. Pataki had the right idea, but some of these troopers take it too seriously. Another horror story: I had a friend with a brand new Ford crew cab diesel, get yanked on the Taconic by Albany. The trooper stated his truck was too heavy for passenger plates and instructed him to return to DMV and obtain commercial plates. My role in life is to serve as a warning beacon to others. In the case of moving to NY, the state government, insane taxes, and high cost of living discourage people from moving to NY more than anything that I can write. Albany doesn't want us state citizens to have big pickups, because it would make it easier for us to move out of the state. ![]() Please don't perform your duties too vigorously. I need someone with a big truck to move to NY and buy my house which is smothering me
