New to Vegas a few questions....

I have recently moved to Vegas from Maryland and I have a few questions:

How does emissions testing effect diesels?
(in md deisels were exempt....I think)

I have not seen a single truck with stacks here are they illegal?

I am looking for a low mileage 4x4 12 valve with a mannual trans seen any? (willing to travel for the right truck) (regular cab base model would be perfect but must have ac)

With emmisions testing would I be better of with a computer controled 24 valve so I can simply turn off the chip, powerpack, etc?

Please help.

You will need to smog anything under a 1 ton.

Yep, smogged every year. I moved here from Frederick, Maryland, small world.

As far as emissions, if you plan on getting some power out of it but want to turn it off at times for whatever reason, then a 24V vp44 or CR is the way to go. With a 12V you are stuck with what you got.

How long have you been here?
I lived in Fredneck for a few years but mostly mongomery county; currently in Henderson (Green valley/Wigwam)

So a 3500 doesn't need to be smogged? I think I have ruled out the 12 valve at least as a daily driver for smog and uncontrollable bombing issues.

I think I am now looking for an 04.5-05 manual 3500 4x4 dually because I love the 22.5 look and hate the idea of smog testing.

When did dodge start using the current auto tranny?
Thanks for all of your replies.

As far as I know,,,you do have to smog a 1-ton. You don't have to smog a truck that is in excess of 10,001 lbs.

Here you go, no more speculating hxxp://www.dmvnv.com/emission_diesel.htm, just replace the x's with t's. I don't have to smog my 3500 because my zip code I'm in doesn't require it.

I just registered my 97 3500 4x4 a week ago, it didnt require smog. My door tag says the truck is 11000 pounds. They told me if the door tag says 10000 or more you are exempt. But then the commercial rules apply and if you get caught smoking too bad, you get fines.

Cool! Thanks!

Now other than opacity issues what are the differences in the rules for comercial vs light duty?

What about the tranny in my previous post? Anybody know?

IIRC, anything over the 10,001# thing does not require smog checks, period. Lon, change your avatar and sig now.

Hello Chowderhead72 and Welcome to Nevada.
All I know it is required every year and smogging ain't cheap, I believe it is about $45.00 unless you know someone and registration is high.
Anyway Welcome

Thanks for the welcome and all of the advice. I am getting an 03 6 speed ho (if I have done my research correctly) 4x4 regular cab loaded from carmax won't be here until halloween however. First mods will be guages, test pipe and smarty. I plan to do those mods myself unless any of you guys are looking for a good excuse to drink a few beers and maybe help when I get in over my head.

The cap will be going asap for a diamondback hd cover: /DiamondBack :: Covers as Tough as Your Truck
