Advice? Truck Stolen in St. Louis...

Hey guys here's a story for ya,

I'm from Tulsa and was just passing through St. Louis when my 04 2500 was stolen out of a friends apartment complex at I-170 and Delmar. It was broken into between 1:00 and 3:00am.

I guess the punks who took it are really good at breaking into vehicles but know nothing about them as they put 1/3 of a tank of GASOLINE!! in my truck that was already on empty. The investigator from my insurance company said its the 5th Dodge Ram he had stolen in this area and mine was the only one that didn't end up getting burned. I guess in a way i was lucky they were dumb enough to put gas in it because they just left it when it died on the side of the road, I'm sure no more than a mile or two from the fill station.

Anyways, what can you guys tell me about the effects of gasoline on a cummins like that? I can only assume that these guys tried to run it pretty hard when it started acting up on them seeing as how they were trying to evade getting caught in such a situation. I've heard that the insurance company might as well replace the cummins...that the effects may not even show up for a year or more down the line.

Also, its being appraised at a chevy dealership here in St. Louis but i was wondering if you guys would recommend a reputable diesel shop in the area for a second opinion? Obviously i don't want to take any chances at letting the insurance company short change me on my truck!

Any help you guys can provide is greatly appreciated..trying to keep my head up about this thing!!!

I would have the engine replaced, the effects on the CP3 and injectors can be catastrophic.

I agree. A new engine would be good insurance nothing is going to happen in the future.

I'm going to STL in Sept. I hope I'll be good. My mom went up there about 6 months ago and had her car broke into and her purse stolen out of it along with her cousins.

Man sorry to hear that I say have the replace the engine but keep the block crank rods head and anything that can be salvageable to have for a back up. Also you can Turn that block into a beast girdle main studs head studs port polish job on the head. But thats just what I would do wouldn't hurt to have a backup.
