In Iowa If truck is over 10001gvw and trailer is over 26000 you have to have a class A cdl. I got mine with a 92 dually and a dual tandem gooseneck. Legally the same as a 18 wheeler. If truck is over 10001 gvw you have to have identafication on truck, dot #, fire ext, annual inspection, safety triangles, all for most duallys personal or not!! A bunch of bull---- if you ask me. Thats why we have no more duallys.

Oh yeah you'll need one! because your going to a Race/horse show/dyno etc... you have the potential to make money and gain profit youre just like a big rig (not exactly but you get the point)

Im not sure about the Duallies but you go off the door sticker on your truck. My 2006 (Std cab long bed) has a GVWR of 9000lbs so you guys with the 6 wheels will be over the 10,001 GVWR for sure

Im just going to run the DOT# and "NOT FOR HIRE" at the bottom of the doors.

Does the "not for hire" have to be of a certain size? Get it as small as possible and green in color on your truck Ian LOL

they told us last year, that we only needed the dot numbers, name, hometown, when hauling produce, or tractors/shakers/forklift/etc for farm use. if hauling a personal truck/jeep/lumber/whatever else we dont need the stickers. all the farmers up here just have them on magnets that go on when hauling farm specific stuff.

Don't mean to in, but I don't believe you need them (DOT #'s)if ur not hauling commercially (ie, for hire, getting paid, or hauling for profit) even though you are over 10,000 #'s. If you have it registered as a company/commercial vehicle, or are for hire, then YES. If it's ur personal vehicle, the NO. Maybe this will help. Registration & Assistance: USDOT Number/Operating Authority - Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration Go to the Help me Register box and click on the Step-by-Step Registration Guide

the new kick is if there is potential for gain you need the numbers. so horse /cattle pullers need em, in my situation I could win money for a truck pull or whatever.... but your right you can fight it if your hauling for yourself.

we have a non profit organization and it effects our 15 passenger van as well as the dump truck and my 06 2500.

I recieved the PIN number to sign up for the USDOT # so Im good to go, I just need to letter up the vehicles.

Yeah, that's the bad part about it, sometimes it's just the officer's interpatation (sp?) of the law. They're trying to crack down on guys hauling their race cars around here. They say if you win money when you race, then you are considered a Commercial Carrier. I almost got throwed in jail in Ohio over the race car haulin deal one night by arguing with the so called officer.

thats absurd. i havent heard of any naziism like that around here. only if you are hauling commercial. or if its for monetary gain, like ian said. when we haul a tractor to a dealer for repair, we are doing it to gain a better crop which in turn makes money. so basically anything business related we need the numbers. when we arent hauling fruit and such, we hang the magnets in the shop.
