Anyone knowledgeable about.....?

A Gerstner tool chests??? I got it from a old retired Tool & Maker. It's in fair shape, I would say. 11 drawers, still has the key for it and the ID tag is U.S. Navy. the date on that is 9-1941!

I google'd some didn't really find anything useful.

Thanks!

Nice brand of tool box!!
Back in the day, when an apprentice became a journeyman, the sponsoring toolshop would bestow a Gerstner box on him, more often than not, there would be an engraved tag to commemorate the day. Much like the tag you describe. Gerstners are rather revered in the Tool & Die world, almost the same way the Stanley Cup is to NHLers....I won't touch it until I have earned it...

I agree not many left! I've been in the tool and die trade for almost 9 years now and I've been very fortunate over those years to have worked for REAL tool and die makers and I have my tool and die card because of them!
