I forget exactly what the law is i know its bottom of the bumper in MD. I want to say it is like 28 inches or something. I have a few buddies with bigger trucks they dont get hastled, and a friend with a 3rd gen with an 8in he hasnt had problems.
ok cool, i think i had heard 28 in also, i just dont wanna put a 8in lift on, then a couple months go by and i get a inspection ticket. maybe some one could chime in that has a 8in lift and measure there bumper to the ground and their frame to the ground. thanks
MD lift laws are 28" to the bottom of the bumper, if your bumper has been modified, it goes by the lower section of the frame rails in front of the front axle. 2nd gen dodges have that nice hump in the rail at the steering box. It helped me out many times when I had my 9" lift and 3" body lift on my old 1500. I was running 37 SSR's and was leagal by a faction of a inch.

If you want to get into the laws really good, techincally any modified vechile is illegal. Its a matter of how you drive, how far your tires stick out and how bad are your headlights in the cops rearveiw. I drove that rig of mine for 5yrs without once being bothered with lift laws.

I know my tires hang out and my hids may be blinding but the fact that I wasn't even doing anything stupid was what bothered me the most..cops just had nothing going on..
If it helps, I just published LiftLaws.com and it has all of the street legal laws for each state. Your experiences would be really helpful to other people - feel free to post them in the comment section at the bottom of each page.
