Hey everyone, how come when i shut the rattler off ( thats the name we call the truck) , it makes a short squeal from under the hood, especially when it is warm.

Its perfectly normal.. if you let it cool down for a min before you shut it down it should be much quieter... that is perfectly normal i wouldnt worry about a thing!

It is normal. The engine suddenly lurches to a stop due to the high compression, and the accessories such as alternator, water pump, fan, etc keep turning and produce the belt chirp.

No worries

James

It is the noise from the belt squeaking with the back compression of the motor's torque. Get the slotted belt and the noise will go away. The GOODYEAR Gator Back its the quiet belt.

the squeak is just part of owning a diesel, some duramaxes and powerstrokes do the same thing. Mine personally doesnt UNLESS i have the a/c on and then its only one very quick lil squeak. Hopefully im not losing compression!!!
