We really lucked out here in Des Moines. However, a levy broke near 2nd ave and flooded the Birdland area pretty bad. But nothing like Cedar Rapids. A friend of mine works for the Ia D.O.T. and he took 3 8" 4cyl diesel water pumps to Cedar Rapids last Thursday night. He told me that the city of Cedar Rapids only had 5 publics works vehicles and they were all small like pick ups except one. All the rest were under water. The only one they had dry was an old military tow truck that hadn't ran in 15yrs. They got it running but when they were heading through the water to unload his truck, it flooded out due to the high waters. they then had to rent a big wheel loader to get him unloaded and get the pumps in place. He said the water was 8-10" from yield signs and it was not still water, but high flowing water so everything was being severly damaged. I know guys that work over at the CIDR airport and they live 45 miles from Cedar Rapids near a river, which one IDK. He said he has lived there for over 20 years and has never seen water near his place. But it is creeping towards their place and last time I spoke to him they were thinking of bailing. He also told me it is taking him 2-3 hours to get to work due to all the flooding. Another friend of mine sent me an email of a highway near Solus, I think, that the ground underneath it is literally washed out abd the concrete is buckled and collapsed. Good luck to all those people, all this weather lately has been crazy.

luckily for me I am not flooded at all but I can see it from my house and could not get to my townfor a week. I have been on State Active Duty with the Iowa National Guard sicne Sat. but I am lucky there to I guess, I have been on Camp Dodge supporting the missions across the state sending stuff out to troops that they need. At this point I think we have just over 3000 troops across the state. I feel for all who flooded and hope them the best.

Fortunately, I was on the northern edge of the torrential rains in Indiana. We have 7" in 4 hours two Saturdays ago. Just south of us, 12" in 4 hours. Biggest flood in this area since 1875, and who knows for certain how they measured it then. My sister lives on a farm in the White River valley. Last I talked to them, they had 3' of water surrounding their 5' of sandbags. They kept pumps running and stayed dry. They ended up with a dead cow in their swimming pool. I think they got it out and "let nature take it's course." I have colleagues with family in peril in Iowa. Very, very bad situation for all involved.

Waters are finally going down here. I was not directly affected but several co-workers lost everything. Now that the waters are down the stench is unbelievalbe along with the damage that is left. I've been able to work thanks to some huge Cummins generators. The one is a V-16 that is running at 65% capacity and producing 2000 amps and 1250 kw, it's quite impressive. Thanks for for thinking of us here in Cedar Rapids!!!!!!!

I'm proud of all the people in here in IA for not acting like some of the people did after Hurricane Katrina and say where is my Government hand out welfare check.

I can say the same for Hoosiers. We just jumped in and helped each other out. The State government here has been very helpful and responsive. Good old heartland values! Stench has been very bad here as well. Nothing like a few hundred city blocks with the streets full of water logged household goods and fields of rotting vegetation baking in the sun. Makes a taco fart smell like a warm tropical breeze..

Well Im very glad recovery/rescue operations seem to be running way more smoothly for ya'll than they did down south during katrina. As I said as someone who lost everything and was misplaced by katrina, or "The Storm" as it's referred to down here, I really feel for all those who are goin through this rough time. But its great to see how the folks in our heartland are taking it with so much courage, dignity and lack of complaining! I have much respect for them. I really wish I could just quit work for a few weeks and load up Black Beauty to take a bunch of supplies up there to help. But I guess the best thing to do right now is to just keep them in our thoughts and prayers.
