ARGH! Right before Christmas too!

Well, 2 days ago my draft horse started itch the spot right below the spot where the cable got tangled in her legs. Got it all tore up and bleeding. She had some swelling at the knee but it was going down until she started itching it again. Well the vet came out yesterday, gave some antibiotic, gave her (the horse) a tetanus booster, and a pain killer. Said she had a 50/50 chance of living do to the lack of circulation to the hoof that could cause the hoof to fall off. But she was very hopeful as the horse was up walking, acting normal, but had a very high fever. 105* Normal is 98.5-100.5*

Well tonight I go out to check her temps and she was standing but the said hoof was in the corner. I about lost whatever was in my stomach. Call the vet and he came out and put her down. Now the ladies in the house (from Momma to 2 yo sis, all 7 of'em) were balling as this horse was the family pet even though she was a pain at times. This was my first horse and a very good one at that. She was the reason for me getting a CTD And the worst part was the bills from this weekend alone. In about 2 weeks time she has racked up a $600 worth of bills between the ER visit when she headbutted my sis and the vet visits. Just to put her down cost me $180

Now the meat render people wont be out until Monday the earlyist but could very well be Wednesday. The cost will be about $300+. Plus my ext. family is coming tomorrow and Monday my moms side is coming.

Merry CHRISTmas everyone.

Jon

PS, I have shed tears and beat up on my truck bed. Why? To let it out. Very hard on me.

sincere condolences are not near enough, but I hope that your family can get remember that this horse is in a better place now and your children will remember this christmas in a very deep way if the family can't get past this in rapid fashion. I pray for jesus to give you the strength to help your family get past this. All my prayers.....
