I dont know of anything on a transmission that is designed to purposely whistle. Fords have a vane after the turbo, alot like an exhaust brake, that helps them warm up. it causes restriction in the exhaust. maybe that is what you were hearing. the newer 6 liters have a different whistle to them altogethor. hope this helps in some way. I am sure there is someone out there with more Ford experience than I have. I do work in a transmission shop and see alot of transmission, but dont know of anything that is supposed to whistle.

Sounds like turbo whistle to me. Especially since it's coming from the tailpipe.

It is the normal turbo noise, not a whistle you add to it.
