Idaho Laws

I was wondering if I could get a little help from you Idaho Bombers and residents. I recently removed my muffler and frankly, its not nearly loud enough. I am thinkikng about a full turbo back system but for the life of me I cant find anything about regulations on removing my cat. I live in Ada county(Boise) and any help or insight would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

John

i ways north of you, but i don't think any authority figures care how loud you are. i drove from the south end to moscow idaho several times with a stright peped 99, and no hassles any where i went... i'd do whatever you want with her

I've been straight piped for overt 4 years now and never seen any problem by the law...

But maybe the fact my truck does have a Red beacon light on top and say Fire Dept on the rear glass might change that...

Straight Pipe

As an ex Idaho cop... I can tell you that any modification from the manufacturer's original specifications is a violation of the state law. As most of you have found, there are very few of us who will ever get jacked up for changing the exhaust on our trucks.

Since Ada County has emission testing, just go to one of the testing stations and ask them about removing the converter. Be a bummer if you remove it and then they won't pass it and your registration is cancelled.
I don't think they care about the muffler but the cat might be a different story.

That's when you take the CAT out and gut it properly and re-install it... They will never know...

Law

I was told that in ID the turbo qualifies as a muffler on the older rigs, not sure if it is true. I do know if you take it off it gets really loud. By the way the CAT is Federal Law and no one is allowed to remove it, if they decide to push it the fine can be steep ! Any smog device is covered by Federal law.

I've straight piped my truck and its pretty loud and haven't been pulled over yet... but i always see a lot of cops in it though...and they always give me the look... mine doesn't even have a cat...never did I have heard about people gettin tickets for blowin smoke though... so i have to be careful with that when i see a cop
