info about northern idaho

I am looking at moving are family to the post falls, kellogg area and was looking into information about the area but wanted to here what people that live there have to say about it. We are looking for some big snow and atv areas plus good hunting and fishing. we are not city people and would like to live in the country but both of us would have to commute to work. I was up there around xmas and crossed in canada in sandpoint. I expect to see more snow than i did, thanks, jr

:Most of the valley's in the "Pan Handle" are around 22 to 23 hundred feet which is pretty low, so most of the winters are moderet here. This winter has been a very good snow year for the Mountians. Schwitzer Mountian has at 6,090 ft. 140 inches and Lookout mountian at 5,140 ft. has 157 inches at the summit. So how much snow do you need? We have had enough snow here and we are ready for spring! I went snowmobiling last Sunday and I saw plenty of snow. We get most of our snow after Christmas. So most of our snow is in the mountians not in the lower valley areas. Maybe you should move to Canada because we have more then enough Californians here already, and don't need anymore. Retat Welcome to Idaho

Much of N Idaho was on a "disaster alert" for all the snow this year, my in-laws are about 15 minutes N of Post Falls and had about 15'+ of snowfall this year.

I lived 15 yrs in the Golden area and the snow is different out here... I you want lots of it, it is here but you may have to drive an hour to get to it from town... People around here talk about the high country, 6000 feet. Was back in Dillon last fall for elk and our camp was at 9700, we went up to 11000. There are elk in Idaho but I think CO has them beet if you know where to look. Lots of lakes, fishing and hunting close by and plenty of snow a short drive away. Jeff

The highest mountian in Idaho is Mt. Borha at 12,662 ft. which is part of the rocky mountian range. Colorado is a beautiful state, I loved it there, just couldn't make enough money to stay. But I had a blast the five years I did live there over there, twenty years ago. You are right about the Elk. The fishing was great.

I wouldn't say there is one thing to complain about hunting in Idaho....

How many states still offer over the counter tags for just about everything for residents and non residents??
