Pros and cons of living in Hawai'i?

I think I've decided that I want to move to Hawai'i when I get out of school. Maybe go to a hell hole for a few years to build up a nest egg and then buy a house and plot in Hawai'i.

From what I gather, Hawai'i is more expensive to live then anywhere else, and most jobs don't pay as good as on the mainland. But it's a tropical paradise.

Anything I should be aware of? What are the downsides to living on an island?

No, I just have a penchant for the ordinary beauties of the world and am thinking, "hey, why not Hawaii"...

I don't know if I'd really mind living on an island. I haven't been outside of a 40 mile radius in the past two months anyways. I lead a pretty simple life and I hear that the Big Island has the best drag strip.

It's surprisingly small. Living in the wide open spaces of Arizona, you may find living on a island confining. Highway 1, the perimeter highway of Oahu is max 40mph for lots of it. Kauai only has a population of 58,000, for the whole island. Might be to your liking. Might not

It was a beautiful place to visit. I've been to Switzerland with gorgeous mountains and picturesque valleys. But, being a prairie boy, I still love big sky country. Living in mountains makes me feel closed in.

dont get me wrong there are a lot of bad b***hes out here. but the cost of living is expensive. and your on an island and they have stupid rules. like if the police can hear your car/truck exhaust from 30ft away in the day time 20ft at night they will right you a ticket. same goes for your stereo system. they just passed a law were you can run any size rim you want as long as its not wider than the wheel well. hawaii is a nice place but its more of somewhere to visit than live trust me.

DUDE! do not move out here in the ocean!!! you will not like it, well maybe for the first month but other than that its borring. the only thing you do is drive in circles. and i believe the best strip is on Kauai unless the other islands ones got repaved. everyone comes here for the 4th of july race week.
