Constructive Criticism for the Overdrive tune

This post is meant to be constructive criticism for the TMC tune, so H&S can better dial in the next version. So I have a whopping 50 miles on the Overdrive TCM tune and figure that I would start with my initial thoughts. I am running the first version tune. I will update this post as I rack up more miles

Everything is good for the most part, so I will only point out what I would like to see changed. My comments are all directed towards light throttle acceleration and general drivability.

1) The TC lockup as well as 5th and 6th gear engagement is too high when accelerating lightly. If put in tow/haul mode, the shift points and TC engagement is near perfect for partial throttle driving.

2) 5th gear engagement and disengagement needs work. It will up shift at approximately 44 mph, but if you slow down to 42 mph it will downshift back to 4th. This leads for a 'hunting' of gears when cruising in 40 mph speed limits around town.

3) When in tow/haul mode, 6th gear engagement has been brutal. It is VERY hard and seems to be excessive to the point of potentially causing damage.

4) The TC needs to engage sooner. I haven't downloaded the beta tune yet as I would like to rack up more miles on the current tune and give more complete feedback on this tune first.

5) When decelerating to a complete stop, you can feel 3rd and 1st gear downshifts. This especially applies to 1st gear. This happened when stock, but due to the faster shifts and more line pressure (I guess) I can really feel it more. Those downshifts should be adjusted down so they occur at lower speeds and can happen unnoticed.

Thanks H&S for a great product and for always listening and responding quickly!

I have about 1000 miles on my Overdrive tune, about 50/50 towing and empty.

I have to say I LIKE point number one, my B&G tune shifted way too early and lugged the truck bad.

Point number two I agree with, kind of annoying.

Point 4 I agree with, but I also have not loaded the Beta tune yet. It is on my laptop, just haven't completed the transition yet.

I have not had any hard shifting, but when I first loaded the tune I hooked up to the 5th wheel so maybe that helped the learning curve?

I do get the ABS light and a couple dings from time to time. Not sure if that is related to the TCM tune or the 6.7.15 tune. So far has happened 4 times, all of which was idling slowly while riding the brake, or stopped (at a light) and in gear. Does not trip a CEL and goes away asap. No biggie, just a minor annoyance that I'm sure will get dealt with soon.

Overall I find this product to be an incredible improvement over stock, and better than the B&G tune I had. I do not regret overwriting it for a second.

So after more miles, I can elaborate on point 3 and 5.

3) 6th gear engagement is fairly brutal even when not in tow mode. It is a very harsh engagement anytime. Maybe this is needed to make it last. If so, fine. Just seems slightly excessive.

5) It is mainly 4th gear and 1st gear downshifts that you feel when decelerating. Also, when coming to a stop tonight I saw the TC lock for a brief second (on the BM display) when the TCM commanded a downshifting into 3rd.

I did a few hundred miles on the original tune and liked everything, but thought 4th should lockup a bit sooner. I like the high shift point in 6th since I cruise higher than that anyway on the highway, and really have no desire to be in 6th unless I'm on the highway anyway. Shifts seem firm and perfect to me.

I then downloaded the beta tune and 4th locks up way too early, as does 5th. The beta tune also doesn't like to downshift as much which leads to some lugging, which is what killed me about the stock tcm. So I have since went back to the original TCM tune and am finding it really good at keeping the engine in the proper rpm range. Starting to wonder why I wanted 4th to lockup sooner to begin with...liking it alot now.

Tow/Haul mode seems counter-intuitive. I think towing in regular D is better due to the higher shift points and and daily driving in T/H mode since it shifts at lower rpms.

Well I thought I would bring this thread back from the dead

I have put a couple hundred miles on the tune and must say its much better than stock, no lugging.

I would like to change a few things:

I would bring the 4th-5th shift and 5th-6th upshifts to 40 mph and 50-52 mph respectively, under light acceleration.

I would also like to see the 6th-5th downshift under no acceleraction improved, an example of how I would like it to feel is when coasting at about 50 and I maually select 5 gear, (with the EB on). With the tune the downshift takes too long (I believe the converter unlocks and the relocks) and by the time the EB kicks back it it kicks back out due to RPM's.

The other thing I have noticed is that when downshifting in 4th the engine revs sligthly (I believe when the converter unlcoks)

All in all I think the tune is an improvement, I would like to see it a little more refined, most notably in the downshifting department.

I don't use the EB very much but when i'm OUT of tow/haul and with the EB ON the trans does some weird shifting.
