Cold air intake

I have had my 05' for about a year and I do a lot of hauling, I am an ag teacher and we show cattle, hogs, and goats. I want to start to upgrade my truck and am going to first install a new air intake system. I want to add some hp and would like to see my fuel efficiency go up some. Does anyone know what manufacturer I should go with to get the hp and fuel upgrades that I am looking for? I have researched a bunch of them and have a hard time believing some of the manufacturer’s claims. Also, can anyine tell me what I should expect once I have installed my new intake?
Thanks

Sorry I cant help you. Hopefully someone else will chime in. I went the cheep route and put a BHAF and an outerwear cover on it. Does the school system you are in help pay for fuel to and from shows? Also fill out your profile so we know where you are.

I upgraded my 05's intake and it seemed to change my shift patterns, ran a little higher rpms before shifting and also gained a smoke cloud when stepping hard on throttle. I then dumped my stock exhaust can and added the aero 4040xl in its place and shifting went back to like it was stock. Now step on throttle and no smoke, even less than stock when stepping on it. Engine seems to pull much better as it breaths easier. Good mods to start with. I dont like to see my $$$ turn to black smoke from unburned fuel

CFM seems to flow the best, contact Gus at Farm Boys Diesel (sponser) or put a request for price quotes in the sponsers sites and some of them will get back with you. I have seen a couple of home fabricated Cool Tubz on eBay and in classifieds that will help on a budget (around $180) fuel mileage seems to be 1 to 3 mpg gain (after you get over the initial period of romping on it to hear all of the new sounds and power)
Sorry, I went from cold air intake beyond the intercooler and all the way to the intake manifold. Did not mean to screw you up. I am waiting for a Volant, after 18 months of research, on boxes, but kept my K&N until I got the intake fixed.

Check with other threads and see what other truckers are getting the best results. All the factory specs to promote their product are not telling us what else is on the truck. I don't believe one new part will make a great improvement, but inconjunction with other parts you will achieve your goal. Go slow, choose wisely $$$$$.
On another thread Duluth Diesel gave the most honest answer I have heard to date about the product. Thats worth some thing in my book.

Diesel intakes, from any company, don't add much power. These aren't like gassers that benefit from an intake with no other mods. The goal with a diesel engine is to get more air in and out efficiently. An intake on a diesel alone will have only slight increases in power on a dyno. The purpose, though, is to add more air to facilitate the use of other power mods that add fuel and demand more air. As you add programmers or injectors, or adjust pumps, on these engines, you need more air in and out. Don't expect big gains in power from doing an intake and exhaust, but when you do and intake along with other power mods, you can make that power with lower EGTs and better mileage. Starving an overfueled engine of air is not an efficient equation.

I like my s&b, I think its the best bang for the buck, like others have said doing on thing you wont see a big jump but doing intake, exhaust and a milage chip it starts to add up, after those three steps on my truck I jumped 2-3 mpg.

my only fear with an s&b is that they are oiled..not as oiled as k&ns but still oiled

and the air filter oil is still bad news in a diesel
