Starter

I was in a hurry the other day and turned the key to crank up. I let off to early and as it was apperant it was not going to run, instead of waiting for it to stop for some reason I went ahead and turned it again.:fist: Now it sounds like something is broke. It sort of sounds like one of those old chrysler starters, real noisy and after it starts you can hear it loudly spinning on still.
Any ideas?

Ouch.....sounds similar to what the starter on my truck did a while back. It would click, then finally engage....then one day it decided to stay engaged once the truck started..:fist: . I would say you probably have a bendix issue, especially if it's not disengaging when you release the key. I fought with mine for a little while, but decided to stop taking a chance with either exploding the starter or loosing a tooth off the flywheel....just bit the bullet and replaced it. Heck of a lot easier to replace the starter than a flywheel..

you got that right. . .trying to replace the flywheel on a humvee is an exersize in futility.

I just hope you havent broken any teeth on your flywheel.

took the starter off and found the gear to be perfect. I took it to the starter place and I guess the reduction gears broke or something.
