Here is a cheap solution for a winter front... A cut up old road sign (aluminum sign). It really help in getting the engine temp up and works great in temps down to -20*F

Man it must take for ever for your truck to warm up without the winter front in place. There is a way to help built temp fast. Accelerate and then allow the jake to drag you down. Then accelerate again. This is done with little throtte. But you got to have a jake/exhaust brake to make it work...

That looks like something you would buy for 150 bucks. Nice. Well done. Wish I was that crafty.

I've seen several versions of mine done out of plastic, metal, aluminum, wood, vinyl, canvas, etc... Any material to block the cold air out..

I don't suggest the cardboard in the radiator trick it might cause overheating problems... I've tried it before...

Check out my write up on my web site

I saw a site today. It's minus 20 out, and I see this SUV travelling down the highway with a little piece of cardboard zap strapped to the grill!

Here's what I made for mine.
I wanted to use dark plexiglass or Lexan but couldn't find it in town.
Seems like they will be durable enough; guess I'll find out. I saved the templates so if they crack I'll get some black diamond plate AL. & go with that.

Mopar1973Man, That's a nice job you did Did you do anything with the open area in the bumper? Mine looks like a large open area there and was wondering if I should cut it down somewhat.

No... I left it open... I thought about closing it up but I haven't seen a reason to close it up. It gives just a enough cool air for running hard up grades and towing a sled trailer around without getting too hot...

Mine heat up in about 3-5 miles now at 0*F outside temp. Compared to 10-15 miles at 0*F and barely making 165*F (bottom of the normal zone) on the gauge...

It is better than the ol' pizza box routine (like on my old Ferds)

I'll leave my bumper alone for now and see how it does for a few days. This week prior to the inserts it just wouldn't heat up. I think it will now.

Thanks

Aw heck I'm using a bud select 30pk box to block the cold air and no problems so far this winter. I do check my temp guage to make sure there is no problem, but I need to make some this spring just to busy now
