Is it a good idea for the entire front to be blocked?

Its not it has a big hole in the center .... smokes we can swap 1 back and forth and see what we think

No , a total blockage is not a good thing, Like Cepp said there needs to be a 5" hole in the center so the fan has an inlet source of air, If this hole isnt there the fan will be on a continual flex as it kicks on and off thus putting stress on the blade with possible fatigue and catistrofic failure.

whitmore is right... trust me chad... u get a hold of it, your not going to want to give it to greg. with a good cooling system, i can run mine till almost 50 deg. out side. and if it gets to warm, just pop the hood and pull it out.

I have the vinyl one that snaps to the grill (have to drill and rivet snaps in place) I'm not the biggest fan of it's looks, but it is ncie and came with the truck so I cannot complain. It has a zipper down the middle so you can adjust the opening size. In the summer it has a screen that snaps in place and keeps bugs and rocks out of the radiator. It looks like this:
