One fact I do know is that the U.S. Military extensively uses Donaldson Endurance filters in their tanks and trucks and is pleased with the filtering abilities of these filters in those nasty desert conditions. That should at least tell us something, eh?

How do we determine the silicone level average for a location?

Are there any numbers on this filter Donaldson G110119 on its flow rating? CFM...
I have been thinking of doing the BHAF with this filter since the military I know uses them.

Thats a winner !

When are you sampling again?? - Id sure like to see what the next one is at.

Irrespective of pressure drop, what is a good CFM rating to support 500-600 HP?

Prior to the twins I was running a UNI for the Scotty 3 filter with a large single turbo and only getting 6-7 ppm at 7500 mile change intervals.

Maybe I need to rig up one of those big oil-bath air cleaners off a semi to get the ultimate filtration...

Using the Ea drop in filter my silicon has stayed at a consistant 5ppm at 6k + or - miles and 8-9ppm at 12k miles. This is using Amsoil HDD 15w40 on a 05 HPCR. I also have the airbox swiss cheesed and prior to these samples I had a AFE with PG7 filter and had 8 and 9ppm at 5k miles on rotella dino. Remember most oils comes virgin with silicon in them for foaming.

Recent oil analysis of Schaefer's Supreme 9000 5W40 with AEM Dryflow filter (11,900 miles) came back with 7 PPM of Silicon. AEM filter had roughly 17,000 miles of usage. This sample was during the dusty summer period including farming, harvesting, dusty county roads, dusty logging roads. Pickup had 162,740 miles on it.

As an aside, mileage dropped about 1 MPG before I cleaned the filter after the oil change. After the cleaning of the air filter, it is right back there at 22-23 MPG on the highway. The solution and method of cleaning did not get all of the dirt in the deep crevasses but cleaned it enough not to worry about it.

Is there now a Donaldson Nanofiber BHAF that interchanges physically with the conventional paper element ones like my NAPA? My NAPA is performing great - and good for LOTS more miles judging by appearance to date, and oil analysis numbers - but it might be worth paying the $$$ to make the switch to the Donaldson if it's a true direct swap with what I have now:

One thing you got to think about when comparing filters is that the BHAFs have a lot more surface area and therfore there is "less" suction at anyone point on the filter's surface...and therefore it isn't going to act like a vacuum cleaner to dirt (the dirt will fall out of "suspension" preferentially).

And just like any other filter, filtration abilities will vary filter to filter because of the filter media. One BHAF may filter worse than another similar BHAF because of the media...filter design has little to do with filtration, it has everything to do with the media.

I think I have read before that paper filters are still the best filters...I know I could see light through my K&N...
