which is better for snow and ice?

right now i have my little stock highway tires, last winter they weren't that great on the snow and ice. im from northwest spokane area and was curious if those would be better then 35 toyo mts? both suck or is one better then the other in the winter months?

most guys who plow snow for a living will tell you that a tall, narrow tire is best for snow. I know nothing about Toyos but I run 285 70 17 BFG AT's in the winter while I plow and they do a great job. That is bigger than most guys would saw is optimal in snow.

my stock tires are tall and narrow but have zero traction, so u take that and compare to a 12.5 mt with lots of traction but real wide? equal trade off or....

no being wide on snow and ice wont help you want your tire to cut through the snow and ice and make a solid footprint the wider the tire the more you will float/slide on snow on ice no tire alone is good you need studs or chains but think skinny when it comes to snow not fat p.s hummer tires suck in the snow my 285/75 do way better that them

Are those your only two options? Is that truck 2wd or 4wd? Are the tires mounted on different rims? If yes, try the big ones and see how you like it! Apparently you already know you don't like the stock ones! Throw some sand bags in the back. Or a fat chick.

Sounds like both sets are equally crappy in the winter. Pick the ones with the most siping and cross your fingers, or watch the local classifieds for a better set of tires.

If you want traction in anything but sand go narow if you want looks and floatation in sand go wide. Any tire with more agressive tread will be better than stock highway tread tho. Just kinda depends on what you are after.

Big Tires Are A No No

just a warning bigger tires will float on snow this advice is coming from a guy who lives in north east pa and is also a ski instructor i live in the snow in the winter and wider is not better when it comes to snow and trucks it makes you float across the surface of snow instead of sinking down and bitting the snow i will show you an example of what a little snow and big tires cause especially if you drive a stick

that was my jeep wrangler it was on 33/12.50 pro comp mud terrains i slid on that snow like a penguin on ice and i was only doing about 25mph main problem was those big azz tires mad me float on the snow instead of biting in and maintaining traction so im telling you from experience big tires and snow arent the greatest combination
