stack install question

im saving up right now for everything to install a 7in. stack on my truck.well i got to looking the other day at my exhaust and whoever put the straight pipe on my truck took the muffler off and ran a 3in. pipe from there to a 4in. tip.when i go to get everything would it be worth it to try and run the 3in. pipe to 5in. pipe then to the 7in stack or just take out the whole 3in. pipe and replace it with bigger exhuast?hope that makes sense.

4" or 5" and run it all the way to the the stack. Bigger exhaust will flow better and have a better sound for sure
