Installing pyro??

Where is the best location for the probe?? If it is in the manifold pre-turbo do you guys pull the manifold right off the truck to drill and tap or do you grease up the bit and tap and catch as much of the chips as possible and then use a magnet or vaccuum to get the rest?? Thanx

had a buddy hold a shop vac right there as i drilled. Pre turbo is the ticket. in the exhaust manifold. do it with the engine off. dont grease the drill bit, the flutes are designed to eject material

fill out your signature because different taps for different trucks

i learned a little trick to putting them pre-turbo, about the time your gonna punch through start the truck the exhuast pressure will not let anything fall into the manifold/turbo. my .02 hope it helps

It's on a 2005 not sure if it matters but just so you guys know what i'm dealing with. You said you started it just before you punched through? Weren't you worried about some small pieces getting into your turbo??

i just did my 05, 1st time doing it to. I did start it right before punching thru but like the idea. Heres what I know;
- I started with 1/8 bit and worked up bout 4 times, keeps shavings small
- I used a magnet to retrieve crap, If someone tells you not to worry and have at it it crazy. I pulled a ton of crap out of mine after drilling.
Keep in mind, i never used the "start right before punching thru" method but think its one of the best methods.
Go research Quads, Edge, Banks and diesel manor sites and look up there instructions and pick the way your comfortable with. I started a couple posts in 3rd gen powertrain recently about this also

Sounds good guys thanx, how much pressure is there when you punch through?? Does it blow "all" the chips out or do you think a few go through the turbo??

Buy that ATS the guy has for sale on the 3rd gen for sale forum and tap it before you put it on. Kill 2 birds with one stone.

just be sure to start with a small pilot bit
and work your way up to the size needed
for the probe threads. the metal is fairly
soft, as long as you take your time, it wont
be a problem.
