Opening Custom Diesel Truck Dealership, Need Product Recommendations??

Hey Guys,

I am opening a new Diesel Truck dealership here in California, we only sell 04 and newer Diesel trucks and specialty hard to find European cars and are a by appointment only professional dealer.

I have a fabricator that is making me my own line of winch bumpers, headache racks, tow bumpers and step/nerf bars etc.. and I will offer all my diesel trucks with gauge pack and programmer options so you don't leave with a truck that you just want to mod when you get home.

We are not your average "Bargain Bonanza" cheezy dealer, like I said by appointment only and only high end, low mile Diesel Trucks and Euro. And on top of that every Diesel Truck sold comes with a free one year membership to the NRA!

My question is what lines of programmer/chips and gauges and pillars/mounts do you guys recommend I carry. I prefer a certain brand for Ford but want to see what you guys recommend for 3rd Gen Cummins. And if it doesn't hurt your pride if you have any recommendations for the Duramax

And what would make you guys leave with a truck, a smile on your face and come back?

that is a pretty niche crowd, I hope you make it work.

As for what would make me leave with a smile on my face...#1 is attitude, if you act like the elitist crap I have dealt with at high end places (not just automobiles) I am going to walk out and tell everyone I ever meet what an arrogant bunch of pricks that are at your place.

Just remember cause a guy walks in with dirty jeans and a T-shirt does not mean he can't afford to be there.

I think another thing is, even though you are going to "specialize" in high end, don't think you gotta rape people on every sale. Everyone wants to make a million bucks, but don't try to do it off one guy. Don't be like many places and slap on some 6" lift and some thousand dollar chrome wheels and big tires and charge me $15k for it.

I like the NRA membership thing...one year? if you are talking real high end stuff, you could consider lifetime memberships, your should be able to cover $750 in a "high end" rig.

You could also carry; 'Garrett' Turbos, Intercoolers, Intake Manifolds, Lift Pumps, Air Intakes, Exhaust Systems, DPF & EGR Deletes, Isspro & Dipricol Gauges w/mounts, Gooseneck Hitches, Airbags, Toolboxes, Nerf Bars, etc.

You know, all the value-added accessories.

Where at in California? I may come by when you open, but as you know it's a big state and you could be 5 minutes or 10 hours away from me.

Oh ya... to answer your original question I agree with Dieselrookie;
Dodge - Smarty
Chevy - PPE
Ford - ? (The only person I know with a Ford doesn't like it but can't get rid of it.)

For the Dodge, Smarty is hands down the best for power and reliability. Also, lift pumps mainly Airdog or pureflow technologies. Also, dipricol gauges are a great match for for the dodge gauges. For the d-max, EFI-live and PPE are awesome programmers. Autometer also has great gauges.. Check out Holland Court Diesel, and Wicked Diesel for Cummins and D-max parts. Also, the best programmer for the Fords is hands down the the Superchips.

If your this serious call some vendors and see what gets good reviews and what products fall apart. They can also tell you what is most popular. I have my own opnions but they are skewed and don't show the kind of scale you need. I second calling Holland Court Diesel, John can point you in the right direction. 303-986-0330

Twoforme2, Thanks for the reply, let me answer a few of those questions.

Attitude:

Trust me when I say that I grew up drivin beater trucks and old dirt bikes and getting the crap end of the elitist attitudes everywhere from the dirt bike shop to the car dealerships. So the last thing I will ever allow is people treated like crap in my place of business. I come from a small town and you only get one chance to make a reputation for yourself here so please have no worries on that side of things.

And when I am not dressed for work I am the guy with dirty jeans and T shirt playin on our ranch

Price:

I have the desire to do this because I know that I don't want to pay the huge sticker prices on a diesel truck that is new, but if I can get a low mile diesel that is clean and taken care of with some custom extras for wayyyy cheaper that the dodge,Chevy, ford dealer than I would be stoked. And you don't have some jackass that sells prius"s trying to tell you it has new spark plus With the prices I get right now on most of the trucks I can sell them at Private Party value with some extras. I have owned businesses for a long time and if you try to overcharge you will make nothin! And its rare to find a diesel man that you can pull one over on

Oh and I don't like lifts, just leveling kits. They can put a lift on after it leaves if they choose to.

NRA:

lifetime membership...yea never thought of that, not a bad idea. I love being able to support the NRA.

Anyways I think you take me wrong when I say "High End" what I mean is we have a great private office/lot location with private electric gates and in the oak trees. I am a state licensed mechanic and only buy trucks that are solid, and not previously modded or beat down. And I am hooked on diesels myself so its a pleasure to do what I do. We are no Bentley Dealership, no coffee bar, but we do drink Coronas out back. No guys in suits but I do have sleeve tattoo's. And when we get the service dept up and running we will let you stand under the lift (even though insurance says NOOOO!)and watch us like an eagle because I don't let any of my trucks disappear into the back of a shop without being a little concerned. We won't sell what we wouldn't drive.

Thanks for the response, because I would have had said the same things you. I am hoping to provide a professional location and experience with trucks that you would want to drive home and some redneck charm
