Should oil leak be tolerated?

Hello All:
Here is my STORY.
2008 Ram3500 Larime 6.7L Cummngs engine and persistant oil leak. Vehicle has had two oil changes in last 12.7K miles:

1) Oil change early at 3500K miles (before long 7k mile trip) and after, noticed oil leaking. Back to Dealer and they changed CRANKSHAFT cover and seal immediately to allow trip to begin.
2) At end of trip at 11K. Another leak noticed at 12.7K.
Back to dealer and shop foreman determined TIMING Box cover and seal needed changing.

After getting vehicle home and sitting overnight, another oil leak, and in differant spot.
This leak in center of truck, just under Flywheel, and oil pan covered with oil. The other times the leak was in two spots, 4 or 5 inchs back from this leak, and on either side, and much smaller.

Questions:
1) Should I have expectations of "No Oil LEAKING"?
Note:
I have requested to talk to Service manager and Owner of Dealership to express my intent to NEVER go back and I will have Warrenty work done somewhere else (if I need any).
Just will not be able to trust workmenship again.

2) Is this a smart move?

i would definetly make them fix it right. if a seal or gasket isn't put in right, or surfaces aren't clean, it won't seal. i'd talk to other dealers and make sure they will work on your pickup before you tell these guys what's up.

Make em fix it. Start talking about the lemon law and see if that gets any attention with them.

Every diesel ive owned besides my dmax has leaked oil.

I would have to agree with paccool, bring up the lemon law and see if that changes there tone.

My 2000 doesn't leak a drop...neither does my bro's 06. A new vehicle shouldn't leak oil...period.

You might crawl under it and see if you can identify the exact source of the leak. Trying to judge the source from the drip location isn't always accurate.

With all the hardware under the hood, oil can bounce off of a lot of stuff before it hits the ground. It also may have been blown around the engine when driving.

Before going back to the dealer, I'd try to be armed with as much information as I could. If they claim leaking is normal, have them show you the oil drips under their new trucks as proof.

Good luck.

dad's '95 had an oil leak until it hit about 100k. it quit then, nothing major, never really had to add oil due to it. but these new motors shouldn't leak a drop.

As long as you have a warranty, the make them fix the leaks. For $35+K it better dam well NOT leak.

You definately have issues...

My almost half million km 12v doesnt even leak, though it does seep a little though the filling spout on the timing cover, but thats just an o-ring and its not even enough of a seep to worry about.

BTW, try not to spell cummins with a G, your liable to get scalped around here!

if they refuse to fix er again... drain some oil out of it and drive it til she blows... then they'll really have a problem on their hands and think man maybe we should have fixed that oil leak... just some thoughts...

I have a '99 with 182,000 miles on it. It still doesnt leak a drop of oil. Yours sure shouldnt leak. I have found after 9 years that the dealerships suck. Its better to find the source of the problem yourself and point it out to them.

Good Luck.

Thanks all for inputs.....
Just got off the phone with Owner (he said). Told him I would be giving someone else a chance to fix, I have no trust in his shop. Explained he should put ear to ground and ensure things ok in shop.

Additionally, I explained I'm retired, plenty of time, will stop in and look him in the eye to ensure I talked to owner. This may be only one of many incidents of incompetence, (replacing two covers and seals, WTF.)

It could be that management is happy getting paid for warranty work? Who knows?

I at least, gave him one "heads up". The right thing to do...
Tomorrow I will give another Dealer a chance to fix.
Also, called Chrysler and have Reference # for problem. I hope it's my last call to them....
