Winterizing a diesel

Hi everyone. What is necessary for winterizing a diesel (this is my first diesel)? I have a 1992 360 12 valve with 178,000 km. What would be the recommended oil for very cold temps (-35C and colder), but still be decent at warmer temps? How often do you change oil in a diesel?

Thanks in advance.

I'll be running a synthetic 0W-40 oil, I change my oil twice a year one for summer and one for winter whether it needs it or not. A block heater would be good too.

Thanks very much for the info. On a side note and I know that this has nothing to do with an engine, but I have to figure this out. I noticed that you have 33" tires. I have 33" tires on mine and I have a hard time making a sharp right turn. The inside of the tread on the driver's side tire hits the ball joint on the arm that comes off of the steering box. I can make right curves no problem. Turning left is no problem. Did you have this problem?
