is there some kind of governor on the cummins?

Just wanted to know if there is some kind of governor? I have found some type of governor in the system. Was on it the other day and once I hit about 2700 rpms, it was like I hit a wall no more go go and you have to be happy with that.
This really pissed me off when I went to pass a jack*** who thought he didn't want to be passed. This person decided to pass myself and another person who where in the left hand lane, he passed us by utiliziling the carpool lane no real issue here until this *** slows down to 40-45 in the left hand lane which we where traveling about 5 mph above posted speed. I found myself trying to get around this person, blowing a whole lot of black smoke and not getting to far ahead of him. Needless to say i need to found out how to correct this issue because I cann't have this bs happen again.

Especially when I know this pickup has more in her.

JUst need some help.

Yeah, they're all governed. The older ones are mechanical, yours is entirely computer governed.

You can get the computer governor removed with a box and get 4000 RPM, but you should have 3200 RPM stock.

BUT, you shouldn't have black smoke stock either. So something's amiss.

at least not alot of smoke....stock diesel's will smoke, but not alot. And if you were think you were blowing smoke stock, wait till you get a programmer. Also...I don't know about 4000 rpm, That high. Springs are recommended at that point.

Here is the issue, My truck has always blown a little smoke. This go around it smoked a little more than normal. I was woundering if there is a way to increase the rpm limit without getting a box. let me know if I can do anything?
