Anyone making power without a programmer?

I'm thinking about taking my tuner off my truck. I'm not a drag racer and could care less about smoke. I was just wondering if anyone here has a truck modified the "old fashioned" way and is getting good results. I'm just looking for decent dependable power and mileage. Anyone running that kind of setup? Any pros and cons you could throw my way would be great.

Thanks.

Why are you taking the tuner off?

As far as "old fashioned" the first things that comes to mind are:
Quick spooling turbo (PS62, Aurora 3000, etc),
Slightly bigger stix
Arson II kit
AirDog 150

IMHO though, this would all be a waste without performance software (i.e. tuner or downloader) to enable the ECM to make full use of the added goodies...

Just my $0.02

Good luck

Maybe it's just the XZT+ but I really don't like the way the engine sounds with this unit on. It sounds like the valves are loose and slamming into everything inside the covers. I'm sure it's normal but to me a loud second gen sounds better than this thing.

Id sell your chip and think about something else. If you think about it, a chip is easy, fast, and somewhat cheap performance. I'm more than happy with my edge juice with attitude.

ever since I had mine reflashed a while back, with Bullydog in stock mode the low end is awesom but the mid range and top is like stock. When I bump the Bullydog up it seems like my low end goes away a little but my mid and top are really there. Usually, unless I'm gonna play, I keep it on stock. Just seems to do stop-and-go a little better.

Yeah I'll probably end up doing that. What a pain though. I have the pillar mount for the commander and all the sensors running all over the place. Is a Juice worth getting if I don't really want tranny frying power?

My 2 cents is to leave it in and, if you have the patience, try to get it to do what you want. You may just be up against the limitations of the tuner with your current hardware.

Regardless, if you are happy with the gauge package, keep the thing turned down and use it for monitoring. It's still going to be there if you decide you need some extra juice from time to time.

If i drive it around on level 4 or 5..the odd time i can feel it slip or search for a gear. But i have more miles on my tranny than you do, so i wouldnt worry about it that much.
I've raced once on 4, but mostly on level 3. I cruise around on 2 and ive found that being the safest and the best for fuel milage.

Its one of the safest chips out there and i love how you can change the level right away.

The Juice will still fry your tranny. I love mine. But I got a 6 speed.

I also find the higher the level you run it the better the MPG gets! I use to run on level 3 for normal driving. But I've switched to level 4 and MPG's went up .5 mpg! And it's more fun to drive and makes more smoke!!

I have a edge drag box but rarely turn it on at all, just when people are riding to close. I get real good mpg's and make decent power with out my box, but I drive it like an old lady because I still have the stock tranny

Highway or city..? When i drive around city on 3/5 it seems to suck it down a little faster than on 2.
