not much point...

The kerosene may cost less, but it has less btu versus good ol #2. Which means its going to have less power and get crappier fuel economy.

Best off just running diesel, in the long run its not going to save much if anything to run kero

You'll need about a 50:1 mix with two stroke or non-detergent motor oil to replace the lubricity that isn't present in kerosene. You'll lose about 15% in fuel economy.

Kerosene wont harm your engine, it just may run with a little less power unless you add a small amount of oil of some sort(like Ops said). way up north kerosene is called #1 Diesel because it doesnt gel like #2 Diesel which we have down south,
That is to best of my knowledge.

There is also the legal matter of road tax.

Kerosene has 135 KBTU/Gallon
#2 Diesel has 139.2 KBTU/Gallon

The reduced energy content, the reduced lubricity, and the reduced gel point are all a function of the reduced paraffin content. Kerosene for heaters probably has much of the sulfur refined out which would also reduce the lubricity.

vlancaster, Running kerosene in a gasoline engine is much different than running it in a diesel engine. The poor carburation can cause cylinder wash, the low octane equivalence can cause detonation and break things, and the lower flame constant can burn exhaust valves.
