How hard is it on the tranny's? Is it bad ?? I've done it in all my other trucks that where sticks , but then i had some guys tell me its bad for em . I use to the to down shirt and taking off , if im hauling i use the clutch every shift . Thanks for any info :thumbsup
If you do it properly, there is nothing damaged. If you force it into gear, you are doing it wrong and will damage the trans.
I drove an 18 wheeler a couple decades ago, and used the clutch when stopping and starting. "Floating" the gears sue beats double clutching thru a 13 speed or a Tri-Plex..
just get a feel for the truck there will be a point were it will almost fall into gear. if you hit it there it wont hurt it. just remember if you have to push hard use the clutch.
I've done it before in my chevy with a NV4500 but every time it has been accidental or my hand is just faster than my foot. its got 118500 miles on it with no problem.
it will eventually damage your trans.even if you cannot hear it, it slowly grinds on your synchros. an 18 wheeler trans does not have synchros btw. it uses a back box. Im not saying i dont shift without a clutch sometimes. lol

i float gears up AND down except at red lights and stop signs.
cant get out of that habit. used to drive for haliburton and always floated gears
except on my driving test where you HAVE to double clutch.
so this is actually harming the tranny ? keep in mind that i am an expert at floating !
I can shift all gears and down shift all gears without a grind everytime. Now with the g56 i have tried and i tear that thing up.Have nearly hundred thousand miles on both trucks and have not had a problem.
you may have not had any issues, but they werent desinged for clutchless shifting, the big rigs dont require the clutch other than 1st and reverse ,but they dont have syncro's in the rest of the gears either.
