Leave them stock and drive. Modding is where alot of the problems start. And then it never seems to end:$::$:

There may some issue with the fuel pump in some but I have only experieced that with a 98.

Reliability would be anything in good shape with low miles before 1998.5.

To make a 98.5-2002 truck reliable you're looking at a refabrication of the fuel supply system.

The common rails seem to be pretty reliable.
