Royal Purple Lubricants

Anything good/bed/ugly about em?? Gonna be doing a tranny pan and rearend cover change-out in the next month or so...and thought about switching these over to synthetics. Royal Purple a good brand to go with or better off something else?? And yes, before I get flamed...I have also thought about the AMS Oil here on the board. Just wanted some general opinions. Thanks.

Also...I'm putting a post in the 5.9 section on changing the parts listed above...if someone has any recommendations on that, I'd greatly appreciate it. You can read more there!!

Thanks!!!

I've been useing Mobil-1 in my truck for years(gass engine). To my understanding , AMSoil is better than Mobil-1 , And Royal Purple is better than Amsoil. All three of these oils are "pure Synthetic"(man made) oils. Most , if not all other brands of oil , claiming to be "Synthetic" , are not "pure synthetic. Because of the outcome of a law suite , other oil companies can lable there oil as synthetic. In actuallity , they went a step further in refining organic oil. I've herd nothing but good of MOBIL-1 , AMSOIL , and ROYAL PURPLE. I like synthetic oils.

Last year I asked Mobil if they use Group III oil in there synthetic oil's and they would not tell me. So until such time they say other wise I don't believe there oil to be 100% synthetic oil like RP, Redline or Amsoil.

Not sure I agree with the RP being better than Amsoil, but because they are both at least group IV synthetics they are comparable. The additive packages are the main difference. Both products are excellent. I'd have no problem using RP over Amsoil if I could get it cheaper.

When mobil 1 lost the "synthetic" lawsuit a few years ago, I think they started using group III base stocks to bring down production costs. I could be wrong though.

i run rotella 15w40, and have in all of my cummins engines. I am thinkin' of switching to RP and running the FS2500 bypass filter system.I will probably run RP IF (and need to look at a bottle of RP) if it is CJ-4 only. Better soot control and cleaner internals according to Shell!

I run royal purple in my wife's 04 chevy Z71.. and will be putting it in my new to me 97 Dodge CTD. I previously ran RP lubricants exclusively(motor, tranny, and rearend fluids) in a 99 TransAm. I am a believer.

I use it on my jeep- I get a deal for a case so thats good I guess

I don't think they have Amsoil in Ontario or at least I never seen it?

I think its all the same sh1t. If you change your oil every 5000miles or sooner intervals then it wouldn't matter if its royal purple or w.e. else thats out there.

I noticed the jeep runs a little smoother when its cold but thats probably cause its synthetic and I'm sure all synthetics are good for that and it could be because I am using 5w30. :thumbsup

Personally i am an amsoil fan, my dad has been a dealer for ages, never had one problem with it. don't know much about rp but basically all synthetics today will yield about the same result. I bet there are a few amsoil dealers on here that would help you get it at a great price!
