Its exists and i still dont know why it was not in the fords instead of the IDIs

Ill take either the DT466 or the DT360. Both came with inline bosch pumps

The DT360 is a little bigger than a 6bt on the outside and though it has not been as thoroughly tested at high HP. The word on the street is that it will take a lot more than a cummins 5.9.

Heres a thread where a guy put on in a Superduty

hmmm isn't the dt466 like nine liters?
I know its physically bigger than a 6ct cummins. Ive had them side by side...
I always thought the dt360 shared the same block. Never seen one thou.
That would be awesome if they were like ~6 liters as I love the 466's

DT466 is 7.6 liters and can be "big bored" to about 10 IIRC

The DT360 is 5.9 liters and is a lot smaller than the 466. For some reason there seems to be an argument over how big the DT360 is. half the ppl say its barely smaller than a 466 and others say barely larger than a 5.9 cummins. the smaller crowd seems to be more credible but ive never measured one.

the DT360 can also be big bored since its a wet sleeve design.

alright got some interweb dimensions

international resource:

DT 360 Demensions? - Binder Planet Forums

the dt 466

length = 45"
width = 29.3"
height = 40.8"
wieght = 1275lbs (i assume this is without the accessories)

the dt360

length = 44.03
width = 28.8
height = 35.6
weight =

cummins resource: what are the dimensions of 6bt cummins - TheDieselGarage.com

the 6btcummins

length = 40.02"
width = 32.44"
height = 35.52"
weight = 942 (again assuming this is without accesories)

i can see what you guys mean by a waste of time dimensionally.

If i ever build a truck from the ground up it will be an ex-6.0 dually with a DT466

The vid that Cumminalong posted from this weekends test-n-tune getting in the 10s made me want a CR...

That would be bad though. id drive around trying to find ppl at stoplights that thought they were fast.

I worked for an International dealership in Sioux falls and I'd never own an International... ever. I remember trucks coming in with 100k, maybe 200k and needing complete rebuilds due to coolant in the oil. Those overhauls were our bread and butter. Not to mention the new MaxxForce engines are complete garbage... a little over 3,000 miles on 3 trucks in one week and they all needed a new engine(warranty). One of those trucks had 2 new engines with-in roughly 6,000 miles. I did like how easy most of the inline motors were to work on though.

Please more info? when did you work there? What years were alright? why was coolant in the oil? You saying this is not going to deter me but facts may. Im looking at 88-94 DT466s. whats the weak link. id appropriate any more info you can spill.

Those 88-94 466s are usually pretty solid, most will have a ton of oil leaks from being so old. It was the 98-02 engines because the cooling package was a poor design with a small radiator on one half and charge air cooler on the other. The viscous fan drive would not get hot enough with the sensor right in the middle of it. Thus over heating the engine and causing cylinder scoring.

Ok good. I wouldn't think of using the DT466E anyways. I can make sure it stays cool. I was afraid you were talking about weak HGs and oil coolers and stuff

Putting a DT466 in a 96 F-350 as we speak. If you put a 360 and 466 side by side on the floor, they are nearly the same size.

Id take a cummins anyday. Theres is a reason why they are in all types of equipment,vehicles, locomotives etc.. I mean Cat is good but expensive to work on. That yellow paint is high lol. I love the old 2 detriots to. They were tough. You cant go wrond with either of the three really. They have all proven theirselves. In big rigs a big cam cummins or a n14 , or a 60 series detriot are tough to beat. Even the isx are good I hear. But then again when all the epa on em now, if I was gonna buy a big rig or if i drove one I would buy one proir to all the epa . Id go with a n14 for sure. Oh and as much as i love a cummins and the sound of em its hard to beat the sound of one of the old 2 stroke detriots. Here are two vids I found on youtube to share with yall. The first is a 12v71 and the second is a 4-53 with a twin second that sounds awesome. check em out.
