Yes you can. My EDGE Jw/Att. says to install the sending unit in the PTO cover. Here is a link to their installation instructions for a step by step. http://www.edgeproducts.com/product_...manual-143.pdf

anyone done this on a G56 yet? I just got the commander and will use the tranny temp sensor if I can figure out where to put it.

I don't know what the safe temp is but I try to keep mine under 220 and it doesn't take long on a hot day pulling 10k. I have my temp probe through the fill plug and 1/2 quart overfull.

It is for sure a lot of work to go through... I installed the temp sensor in my 2000 6 speed, you have to drain all oil as the sensor has to be "tapped" into the cover, then tough to get the oil back in....plus it is hard to find the correct oil for the 6 speed... plus being expensive

Hypothetically I am at the oil change interval of my G56 and I have to change the fluid anyway, where would it be put? So hypothetically I am not at the stock HP levels, Where would it be put? So I have a gauge that comes with the thermocouple already and it won't cost much more to have it installed, where would it be put?

I understand that it isn't needed. I also absolutely know that if I was buying individual gauges that I would not buy a trans temp gauge for a manual at all. But, if it is in cluded in the package and the thermocouple is there, why not put it in? Otherwise you have a parameter that is fully capable but isn't being used. What is the point in that?

Thanks for the PTO cover suggestion.

Whether it's need or not, the more you know about your truck and what she's doing, the better off you are. I like the idea, never thought about it before. I haul kinda heavy and not near stock power anymore. I changed my 6 speed oil with synthetic and don't know what going on in there
