How much antifreeze? What type?

I am replacing my water pump and hoses this weekend and will need to replace the coolant. What kind do I need and how much?
I think the pump did pretty good. It lasted 8 years and 172k miles.

Thanks.

I just put on the Mr.Bob's hose kit on my truck about a month ago and I put in approx. 4 gallons of prestone..then I went to NAPA and bought a bottle of coolant sysytem conditioner:thumbsup.

There are a couple of threads on here about this and I read many different answers varying from only run one certain kind of antifreeze to it does not matter as long as it is changed often (do a search for coolant system conditioner). There is some stuff out there called Evans (it is really expensive but is supposed to be good for life).

What does the coolant conditioner do? I read somewhere that you need to put in something that stops the coolant from cavitating around the cylinders. Does the conditioner take care of that?

Thanks.

Look in your manual, it'll tell ya what to use and how much. You need a 50/50 mix of anti-freeze and water.

DieselTracks is right, you need a 50/50 mix. I bought mine pre-mixed. And the conditioner I bought from NAPA is what you need. It helps prevent cavitation.

2 gal of green and 2 gal of water and you'll be good to go.
