Stick or auto = Better mileage??

I've heard it seems like both sides.....auto is heavier therefor worse mileage and I've heard em say that it has a higher gear ratio in O/D and does better.....so I'm kina confused!

I'm lookin at 05 - 07 models 4wd and just curious.

Either way being 4wd isn't gonna be the best mileage.....

OR maybe a different part of the question.....

Which is the better built of the 2 ?? Won't be a lot of towing except for 4 wheelers and travel trailer every so often.....

Feel free to drop/share comments as needed!! I'm still trying to learn as much as I can!!

Thanks guys!!

your going to get better mileage with the auto on the highway because "stick" trucks come with 4.10 gears but in my experiences my manual gets better gas mileage in town than my buddys 03' auto. and the manual transmission is much better built than the auto.
My 04.5' gets 17 city and 19 highway with manual trans.

I could have swore my last truck, which was an 06 stick had 3.73 gears but I don't know. I thought that's what the vin check said but I could be wrong.

I know it had granny low + 5.....

i dont believe 4:10s were an option with the 6spd. i have a 6spd and will never own another dodge automatic.

the stick s do not come standard with 4.10s and im almost positive they werent an option. if you know how to drive the stick will be better all around because you dont have to drop gears to pull hills on the highway all the time and the auto automatically shifts down. now dont take this the wrong way but our trucks dont get any "gas" mileage now the stick will hold up longer and is much more stout to pull with. its all personal opinion when it comes down to it some people dont like rowing gears sitting in traffic

they were an option with the 5.9CR's... standard gear was 3.73 with manual or auto, you could opt for 4.10's with either

my 04 6sp had 4.10's

the older iron case manual transmissions are probably heavier than the autos...

the stock converter is pretty sloppy, so around town, the manual might get the nod, but a lot of people wind out the manuals higher than an auto would, so the difference won't be great. On the highway, the taller OD of the auto should give it an edge

so are they not an option witht he 6.7s? because i spec'd an 09 and a 10 and neither one would let me have 4.10s with a 6spd. but thats why i said i didnt know for sure
