outta the dodges , i would say that the 06-07 5.9's are the best. best looking and still reliable with great milage per gallon.

CHECK IT OUT FOR YOURSELF

ALOt of these guys with 06's and07's 5.9 either use to have or still have there older 1st and 2nd gens. but they know which is the best all around.

#'s don't lie.

Lots of heavy haulers in the Texas Hill Country. Out of ten trucks you'll see seven Dodges two Fords and a Chevy/GMC.

the 04.5 is by far the best Common rail. It has the simplest of the Electronics on it, It will be the most reliable Common Rail that Dodge will ever produce.

I pull a 28' enclosed trailer that weights in around 12,000 + or - depend what racing gear we have it. The worst i ever got was 7.5 MPG comin back from Cali in a bad head wind, and that was before i dumped the DPF. Since the new tuning and dumping the DPF i have never got less than 9.5 MPG Towing. I average a little better than 10 MPG Towing at the weight above but i like to keep it a little conservative. Another consideration is the fact that i drive about 75MPH to 80 MPH. Im sure if i droped down to 65 I'd see alot better milage.
I think even with my 37" tires and with crazy larry turned on and my foot to the floor i'd still get better than 9.5mpg and i'll hook up the biggest, heaviest trailer i can find and i'll probably still get better than 9.5 that defeats the purpose of the diesel engine, which in my opinion is to make gobs of power and still get really good fuel economy, oh and i think i forgot to mention the durability which powerstrokes have never had and the cummins will always have

The new 6.4 has larger rods, larger rod journals, new heads, larger head bolts, more head bolts and a new common rail fuel system Vs the HPOP system the 6.0 had.

IMO,it may just put up some serious competition to the cummin's reign of HP, TQ and reliable performance. Only time will tell and ford has alot of work to do but it my get very intresting.
by the time ford gets around to makin a decent diesel we'll all be flying around in hover cars with floating trailers and hydrogen engines haha i hope not but you get the point

hey guys, a bit of a newbie to the website, but am getting familiar with all the diesal engines out their, bottomline i do agree cummins has the right idea with an inline six i've talked to owner operators of semi-trucks who at that level prefer cummins, not only for its reliability but because parts are less expensive compared to Cat Or Detroit, not that cat or detroit has bad engines. but also of all the brands i've worked on, Ford makes a heavier duty frame, i could be wrong now, haven't looked under a newer dodge, course Ford had that crummy monkey bone suspension, Do they still do that? anyways im off topic, had some questions, if you were to put dual eghausts on an 02' 2500 cummins could you still install a working eghaust brake, this would be for a six speed.

As far as the new Dodge 4500-5500, their frame strength is second to none. Don't know about the 1 tons. I don't see any reason you couldn't put an exhaust brake on a dual exhaust system.

NOT A CHANCE! I have a buddy who works for cat and see the C7's and C6.6's all the time and he says they are junk. He is a big circled problem man, and has a 5.4 truck he wants to put a cummins in, i asked him why not a little cat? He told me flat out they were junk. To quote him: "i work on the things, i know they are junk" I run Cat stuff got a 3408 and a C13 they are really good. But the lil cat's have to run from

im new to the site and am debating between a ford and dodge as well.
(me+chevy IFS=BOOM.)
now just saying ,(cant afford one anyways) the new 6.4 makes tons of power without much.
(over 500hp on DPF delete and tuner), oh and on stock auto tranny too.
and well see what ford can do as far as making its own diesel next year. new 6.7...
now for my delima.
im more of a ford guy. i love the truck, but the 7.3s are hard to make any power on.
and the 6.0 cost too much to mod and are immpossible to find with a manual tranny.
now i know the cummins is the best, but my dad had an 04 dodge (gas) and it wasnt all that great. interior was already falling apart at 80,000 miles, and he takes real good care of his stuff.
now for the cummins.
wich is easier to make power on the 12v or 24v.
in the future i want to push over 500...but that will take awhile and i wont have much money (highschool kid)
which would be cheaper/easier to get to this goal an what are some recommended set-ups.
oh and im fairly new to this diesel stuff so dont bash me.

thanks,
Josh.
