Don't get me wrong, I think Dodge trucks look good. And I was watching a car show program on the Speed Channel when a car guy (I don't remember his name, but he should have known what he was talking about) said the one thing that Chrysler had on the other "2" was the 727 transmission. He said it was much stronger for hotrodding than the TH350/400 or the C4/6. I didn't hear that as a young guy because all of my peers were Chevy freaks. That was the biggest thing making me a Ford guy!

I do have a line on a 99 Dodge 3500 DRW ext. cab with Cummins/5 spd (140K miles). I really want a crew cab, but it does have the front bench I want.

i think that ford trucks ride like crap, they are too stiff of a ride. the turning radius of the stupid duty is like 2 miles, compared to a dodge or GM

My Chevy C1500 won't turn nearly as tight as our 2001 Excursion.

>The ideal truck for me would be the Ford F250 4X4 with the 5.9 cummins and the Allison 1000 out of the Duramax trucks.< Boosted

This is very doable; FordCummins.com for the engine swap and Beans Diesel Performance for the adapter plate to mate the Allison to the Cummins and you're all set!!:thumbsup

My ideal truck would be the 2006 Dodge Megacab 4X4 Laramie(leather, Infinity am/fm/cd/sirius sound system/steering wheel controls, navigation system) with the ATS Extreme 48RE buildup.

Another slam I'm finding about the Dodges as I look up Carfaxes - they're made in Mexico!

I had an '02 Ford 7.3 before I got my first Cummins. I only bought it because it was lifted 8 Inches with 38's and looked awesome. It was a good truck but the turning radius and ride quality was crap compared to the Dodge I bought after it that had 9" of lift with 40's. My buddy has an '05 Ford 6.0 and it has been in the shop more than on the road and he is fixing to trade it in on a Cummins. Once you go Cummins you never go back, at least I didn't anyhow. I currently own 2 Cummins trucks now and will never have anything else. And this is coming from a Ford fan(the truck and cars not the International).

Final assembly is in Mexico, with largley American made parts. Not sure why any of that would be an issue. The reputation of the truck withstands all.

I have both...

I drive a 01 7.3L (auto)F450 DRW 2wd drive service bed truck for my current employer. It has 217k(i got it with 181k) miles and has absolutely zero problems except getting brand new ball joint this week becuase they just now wore out. It has the original trans fluid becaues my boss refuses to let me change it during the work week because it cant be down but it shifts great drives great, starts even on the coldest day assuming it has been plugged in for a few hours. The only problem I have with it is the power. The truck has a service body on it with tool boxes and parts, it also hasa welder/generator and air compressor so shes got a good deal of weight added to it-I think all said and done it weight 12k or so. 50 more HP and it would be really nice ride oh and cruise control.

Pros of Ford 7.3L: Radio and speaker, Hvac controls and I think for the most part the factory Automatics are stronger also interior.

Cons of Ford 7.3L: Overall power, abillity to be worked on (general maintence) annoying door alarm that sticks everynow an then it sticks(winter months mainly) and fuel economy is only like 9-11mpgs if that.

My dodge is a daily driven truck(well on the weekends it is, I dont get home during the week days early enough to drive it)I can tell you this much the factory stereo with just the CD player system-SUCKS. I mean it has an output for an aux. source but as soon as you try and turn it up loud enough to hear with windows down the speakers start cutting out(I am close to replacing the factory unit, just got to wait a little bit). The Cummins is a great engine easy to turn up the power and you can feel that low end grunt that eveyone talks about starting at 1000rpms goin All the way up to redline. My automatic works just fine, though I only have 4800 miles on it. I am having a hard time wondering how dodge ever came to there decision on the HVAC system-The high on the AC doesnt even move air nearl as well to my service truck(heck it will freeze you out in a few minutes no problem) now I am not saying it doesnt get cold but the fan motor just sucks:fist: . Fuel economy is great too if you can keep your foot out of it-I get about 16-19mpgs regularly and my truck isnt even really broken it yet:thumbsup

Pros of CR 5.9L: Great powerband, awesome exhaust sound, better cold weather truck, Generally easy to work on(lots of room in the engine bay) fuel economy.Oh and really strong front rear axles

Cons of CR 5.9L: STEREO(if it isnt the nav system, dont know anything about them) Interior leaves something to be desired, HVAC is simply not on par with a 40K price tag. I am not a big fan of the exterior of the dodges so this is a con for me

Hope that helps you out:thumbsup
